Supers in Genesys

By TheWizurd, in Genesys

Maybe, but having to pick something up and keep it from falling apart simultaneously causes upgrades....that's when Mr. Despair shows up....

I'm imposing reality on super strength as the easiest way to rein it in. Things have to be grabbed correctly or you pull parts off. If you're standing the ground the surface better be able to support you. etc.

I think the best way to handle these is with upgrades and set back dice and with enough disadvantage or a despair the piece breaks off that happens all the time in Super powered stuff.

My powers are tactile telekinesis and super brawn. I project a telekinetic field around anything I can touch. It allows me to pick up a bus by just the bumper and throw the entire bus without having to worry about just tearing off the bumper.

ah the original super boy clone. Honestly my favorite power set and will always be the first character i try to make in a supers setting

So, how does Genesys work for Super Hero games? A friend of mine and I alternate campaigns, I run Star Wars a session or two, then he runs a Super Hero game for a session or two. We used to use HERO System, but that's way too complex (though it is really good at modelling a very wide array of super powers), and now we're using the FATE System, which is nice, but a bit simplistic. After converting from Saga Edition to FFG Star Wars, my friend was actually thinking about hacking the FATE System to use the Star Wars dice. So if Genesys is at least as good at handling Super Heroes as FATE, and uses basically the same dice system, I may have found my friend's Christmas present.

A timely question. Check out this thread for an article link and lots of discussion:

We know very little at this point. We do know that they are designing a Supers system for Genesys. Will it be better than FATE, yes. While I like FATE it just doesn't have enough crunch for my group and like you Champions has too much crunch these days for our old brains.

So now that Genesys is on the book shelves and addresses Supers on the last page of the book I was hoping to reignite this conversation. How is everyone handling powers, are you using the magic powers framework?

Unfortunately. I haven't had time to get in depth with the book. I will start stating some known heroes once I get a feel for the rules.

Good podcast question. I'd imagine they will suggest magic as the base along with tweaks that they've already suggested with Brawl damage and minions in super settings.

As I'm planing to do a genre smash game, I want to use super characteristics but need some cost/balance factor. Not that every character should be micro managed into perfect power tier comparisons but at least something I can point to as "you paid X for Y, they paid X for Super Brawn"

Any suggestions?

RAW is that every supers character gets two Super characteristics. I plan on doing my super powers as talents and will incorporate super characteristics into that so that they will be balanced with other powers.
