Custom chest/case for storage - Descent / Mansions of Madness / Imperial Assault Kickstarter?

By Hasnatir, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hey guys. I started working on my personal storage organizer as soon as I bought Descent. Then an idea popped in my mind, after seeing Atom4geVampire's Custome Storage Box.

I would like to do the same thing he did with the foamcore, but with wood. A standalone chest/case with 3/4 levels, with slots and "drawers" for all the core, expansions, LT packs and H&M components ( I would like to leave some empty space for hopefully, future components ). And since Descent shares components and shape with Mansions of madness and Imperial assault, that could be universal.
I'm currently looking at multiple options to do that, but I would like to know from you if you think you could be interested in something like that ( I'm still going to do it for myself sooner or later ).

If you are interested, how much are you willing to spend on something like it? What kind of features would you suggest for it?

I hope the post and my english are understandable enough
Thank you in advance for the advices and the attention guys!

your English is understandable

I don't know about mansion of madness, however, you need to consider that ia core has about 18 pieces with different pictures. Another possible idea is using some sort of common item like a shoe box and figure out something that is at a hardware store everywhere or at least most. I would back you if you managed to start one, however my help will be limited. Post here If you start.

I don't own MoM, but from some pictures I saw, I thought it had the same amount of miniatures. My bad.

As for IA, I think right now it has a little more than a half of the miniatures Descent has ( not including Descent heroes ). I think that the totals will come closer sooner or later, since IA is still running while we haven't seen any new Descent's content in a while.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean here.

I'm asking here and on the BGG forums because I want to know whether there's interest in something like this, or not. I'll keep you and this post updated for sure.

I'm already inquiring about what it would cost to produce something like this. For now, it seems like the biggest problem would be the price. I know there's a guy who sells the Core Set Organizer on Etsy.. It comes at 14€, and that's by far the cheapest I've seen. Problem is... it's only for the Core Set.

Now, let's say that the Core Set is about 1/4 of the total components the game offers as of now. So, having the 4/4 of components, would take 4*15€ = 60€. And that's not considering shipping.
I know that there are Organizers, Plano and other solutions out there, that cost about the same, but that's why I would like to know how much interest is there in having something like this.

Given the right amount of interest, it could very well be made of modular parts, so it could get upgraded with every new expansion.
Thank you for your answer ATM2100!

I assume you know of the kick starter site.

What if you could sell individual add ons for each expansion, or had get it for all of if option? I know some people like me don't have all of the expansions yet.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough, but that's what I was refering to here.

That's why I would like to know if the community has any interest in this ( so far, between here and BGG, not much ). Projecting and producing a modular systems it's harder, and more expensive ( more line cut ).

It would have to be better than how I have Descent organized now for me to want to buy it. My set is painted, so storage has to allow for protecting painted mini's. I also use an organizer system for the tiles, so any other storage I use would also need a convenient organization system. Finally, it has to be portable enough to be, well, portable. If you design something awesome and stylish that hits those three requirements I can say I would be interested :)

Thank you for your input Kaaihn. Can you show me how you're organized right now? I've seen the tiles organizer but I don't know about the rest.

Right now, my tiles are divided based on their dimensions. I was thinking about keeping it that way. What do you think about it?

Portability is going to be a big challenge, since it depends on how much it's going to weight, but I'm definitely looking into it.

I'm not a fan of organizing by dimensions. Organization, in my opinion, needs to correlate with how you build the dungeon. That means the numbering system. I keep mine in numerical order, with separators for each ten so you can grab manageable groups at a time.

Currently I have all the boxed sets in here, as well as all lieutenants. I don't carry the Overlord stuff with me since we only play with the app, but there is room to add it if I wanted to.

I'll be adding hero and monster packs as I finish painting them. I can redo most of the foam tray layouts to fit more, and you can see I still have unused foam space, but even still I don't think all the hero and monster packs will fit in this case. I'll give the foam tray case back to my Warhammer 40K army I stole it from once I outgrow it and buy a taller version for Descent.

nice. My tile solution was organize the core tiles numerically then put LoW and LoR on top at an angle in the core box.

how much did the above box/bag cost? how much with only second edition?I noticed some first edition stuff in there i think.

It's a Vaultz file box . About $40 usually. I'm using these folders in it. These have a collapsible base and side, so they make a pouch. They work far better for tiles than a standard file folder that is just a folded over piece of cardboard.

That bag is the Sabol bags Motor Pool . It's a super nice mini transport bag. Honestly, it's overkill for Descent miniatures. You could find a cheaper bag that doesn't have as thick of materials, isn't waterproof, etc. I had this already for my highly customized Warhammer 40K army, so I'm just reusing it for Descent for now. Once Descent outgrows it (Probably only room for half the heroes and monsters packs) I'll decide what brand bag to go with. I'll go with the Sabol Armored Company model if I don't find a cheaper version that works as well.

This is only second edition. Core set, all box set expansions, and lieutenant packs. Oh, and one hero and monster pack is in as well (Oath of Outcast). I have all the other hero and monster sets, but I havn't painted them yet so have not added them.
