Battlefront Influence

By Raging Celt, in Star Wars: Legion

Anyone else playing Battlefront (Beta and 2) thinking this would look wicked on the table? I just finished the weekend beta and I couldn't help but think this is visually stunning! (And somehow it made me want to revisit the Prequels! Weird, huh?)

Prequel hate aside there is no doubt stunning inspiration for fully realized tables! Sullust, Jakku, and so many more. Anyone else see potential here?

For sure! Me and another user whos name eludes me have spend quite a few posts hyping up modular Sullust boards heavily inspired by DICEs maps. Landing platforms (fingers crossed I'll be able to shoot an in scale Lambda Shuttle on ebay for a fair price!), mountains, lava rivers...not to mention the ability to base your miniatures in a fitting way!

I am an avid fan of the game as inspiration for a gaming table. I am actually working on a Death Star interior based on the DLC from EA's Star Wars BattleFront. The survival map for Sullust is a favorite of mine for a table design as well. It mixes a little interior combat (hangar bay) with a well designed terrain that provides plenty of cover. I really wanted an interior map so I am going with my Death Star design and possibly a Star Killer Base interior. (Space Station interior mixed with rock face walls)

The Theed map was very spacious and had lots of camping sites. ;) The Takodana map was very cool and I am a big fan of the smaller team Close Quarter Combat maps. With less trees I think the Strike map for Takodana would make an excellent table top and objective.

Also as a side note. One could use a General Weiss Imperial Assault pack for a downed AT-ST. It is already in pieces and can be an excellent way to practice painting miniatures or terrain. This is a simple choice for inexpensive and accessible terrain. The scale is not perfect but they should be available everywhere FFG items are sold and the quality and detail are great.

I've also been using Battlefront map images for reference when thinking about and designing terrain ideas.

(The beta was not bad, except for the respawn system. Made it nearly impossible to work with any group members)

I believe the group system will be part of the game at launch. I was not a big fan of the spawning in system either but in all fairness it was never realistic or fair to all of the sudden appear on the battlefield next to a partner after being defeated. Technically that rebel/imperial was just defeated. This is a more realistic reinforcement situation. They just didnt need to put you so far back from the action.

It is also hard to judge a game on only 3 maps. I really didnt like playing Theed over and over and over and over.....
