In my bid to keep the game alive locally, I'm trying to plan at least one tournament a month (as well as a league). Does anyone have any interesting alternate formats that they've experimented with and found fun? Whether it be deck restrictions, format changes, or something else, I'd like to hear them.
Alternate Tournament Ideas
Multiplayer - you need some thick skin it you get knocked out but you also spend a lot of time laughing at how the game goes crazy with 4 players.
Any king of tournaments that use a "best of 3" format rather than the usual 1...
Last saturday we ran an event, that wasn't announced enough, so only 6 player showed. We played acording to the official rules... 3 match... That's all. 90 mins and it was over, not even worth moving there (I always try to win, but I go there to play against more player than my usual friends).

Drafts are doing pretty well!
other than that, +1 for multiplayer! Also, FYI, Han/HiredGun/HiredGun is the ultimate meta list in multiplayer.

I think we're too poor to draft. I know I am!

We had something similar happen once, so we played Round Robin instead. Made for a longer day. I think if a tourney has less than eight players you should go straight to Swiss and go for broke.
So just to get the ball rolling, here's my idea for the first tournament:
-
Mean Streets Of Coruscant
Down amongst the grimy streets of the planet-city, gangs of scoundrels, deserters, and rogue force-users fight for control of meagre resources.
Team restrictions: your team may not contain any characters with the 'Unique' symbol. You can not have more than two copies a character with the same title.
Deck restrictions: your deck may not contain any card with the 'Unique' symbol. You may not include more than three 'Legendary' cards in your deck.
Other rules: None.

I think this is a good way to give those 'generic' characters that almost never see play a workout, while also opening space for underplayed Rare cards. Plus knowing your opponents team will always have three/four characters opens space for cards that deal damage to 'all' characters. I haven't playtested yet, so I'm sure it's terribly exploitable, but I think it's a fun twist on the usual game. Any other ideas or thoughts?
We do theme nights, some are villian, some are hero. Some are Restricted lists, some are meta nights. Then some days we use Facebook to coordinate a player choice for who plays what, one person nominates another and says what character they need to include and then a character they can't use. So you can do kylo 2p, but no FN Or Thrawn, no Unkar, Poe but no Maz.
I like non unique decks.
No legendary.
No 2 of the same card in a deck.
No elites.
Lots of fun ways to mix the game up.

Those are all good ideas, thanks. I especially like the banning of one character... I know a guy I'd like to ban from using Thrawn.
