Top 5 favorite ships and top 5 squads.

By schmidty1701, in Star Wars: Armada

There's a Topic like this in the X wing forums, so I decided to get the ball rolling here and take it a step further with top 5 favorite squadrons too.

1. Rebel Assault Frigate. This ship is a jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none type of ship, but it looks cool and had managed to remain a staple for us Rebels since Wave 1.

2. MC30c. This ship may only have 4 hull, but it's got a ton of firepower, it's fast, and it's shields are amazing for a small ship. The titles are the best defensive upgrades (IMO).

3. Liberty cruiser. It may not be a big hit with most Rebel players, but it looks so beautiful, and it's always a blast to use, even if it goes down. It's still got the single strongest shield in the game too.

4. GR-75. Great support ship. Not much else I can say.

5. CR-90. Specifically the A variant. It's been the fastest, most manuverable ship since the very beginning. It's great with TRC, and the 2 point Jaina's Light is grossly undercosted (IMO, and not that I'm complaining).

1. Shara Bey. Natural counter 3 with crits counting as hits? Yes please! I also like squads that, when they die, their loss doesn't affect other squads (like if Blount dies early, Zs lose a fair amount of effectiveness)

2. Ten Numb. I love B wings, and unblockable damage is always a plus. You just have to get a Blue crit to activate it.

3. YT-1300. 7 hull Escort and Counter?! Again, yes please! Best escort for B wings.

4. Corran Horn. Snipe and Rogue make a nasty combo, and with Yavaris and Adar, you can assassinate your opponent's other aces pretty quickly.

5. Dash Rendar. Rogue, Bomber with a black die, and rerolls when you're at distance 1 of enemy ships and squadrons. Sounds like a deal to me.

I pretty much only play Rebels, so here are my picks.

Ships:

  1. MC80 Command Cruiser - Hits like a truck, can take a **** of a beating, and still command squads.
  2. Assault Frigate Mk. II - I love it's goofy design, and how it is almost always underestimated as an opponent. Solid and dependable.
  3. Nebulon-B Frigate - It's basically a space sniper-rifle with some of the best titles in the game. Yavaris FTW
  4. Hammerhead Corvette - Cheap and sturdy, and can put down a surprising amount of firepower. With the ability to work together via the Task Force cards means you have a much bigger ship that is broken into multiple pieces.
  5. GR-75 Medium Transport - They don't fight. They just make all the other ships better. They make squadrons better. ****, they can't even hurt other ships when they run into them! Great for just 18 points.

Squads:

  1. Luke Skywalker - I love X-Wings for their ability one-shot TIEs and absorb damage. When you add Luke's "LOL shields" ability, kinda perfect
  2. Wedge Antillies - He. Rolls. 6. Dice.
  3. Norra Wexley - She's a Y-Wing without heavy that can just MELT shields when you send her in with some B-Wings
  4. Tycho Celchu - Tough call between Tycho and Shara, but the fact that he can't be pinned down makes him sooo much fun
  5. Han Solo - He's Han Solo. He always shoots first. 'Nuff said

1. Flotillas (Bright Hope): they give activation; with scatter, the most efficient tarpit in the game; prevents tabling.

2. Yavaris: in the current meta, the best title in the game.

3-4. Brawlers (Demolisher, Admonition): the highest damage per cost ships in the game.

5. Guppy: All-rounder

1. VCX!: With Yavaris, Relay and Strategic are game-changers.

2. Maarek Stele, Jendon, Saber, Mauler, Zentrik (cheapest tankiest Escort)

3. Norra, TenNumb, Luke, Jan

For the record, I absolutely hate Relay and Flotillas.

This is a fun idea for a thread!

Ships

1. MC30 - love the look, love the speed, love the danger - always enjoy moving these bad boys around the table

2. ISD - as a primarily rebel player, I still love the look, the power, and the danger presented by an ISD - they really nailed this ship. It's so massive!

3. Liberty - Home One is more iconic, but the Liberty model is just so battlecruiser sleek, I love it

4. CR90 - great long range skirmishers, and it's just fun navigating and trying to arc dodge with these.

5. Raiders - I love how strong these are in certain areas (black die front, anti squad), and the compromises they make, plus they look great.

Squadrons

1. Shara Bey - super fast, can move her in the squadron phase to gum up the works, and scatter for A wing aces is great

2. Ten Numb - really powerful ability but takes alot to reliably fire it, and I love B wings

3. Dutch - I think he's underused, and I wish he didn't have heavy, but a great ability, hard to kill with 6 hull - if you have enough other non heavy stuff, I'm always happy to have him around

4. IG88 - the assassin droid ignoring counter is a really cool idea and it's implemented well, he's fast, deadly, but if you lock down the scatter he can be taken out

5. Gold squadron - super iconic, and I love having them for that, but also really good - 2 blues, non-heavy, for 2 points more is just fantastic

Favorite 5 Ships:

#1: Cr-90

#1: ISD - I mean, these ARE Star Wars. These are the two icons that started it all. When you realize that we are playing a damned good game with these beautiful little models, you realize how blessed we are.

#3: VSD - Yeah you read that right. The much maligned VSD is a personal favorite. My Little Victory.

#4: Demolisher - Suck it Rebel scum.

#5: Raider - External Racks and Flechettes are game changers.

Favorite 5 Squads:

#1: Mauler Mithel - Imperials love him, and Rebels love to hate him. You will not find a more attacked squadron out there. He cleans up enemy squads like nobody else.

#2: Plain TIE Bomber - Efficient, and deadly to ships. "Plink"

#3: Plain Y-Wing - Efficient, and deadly to ships. "Plink"

#4: Tycho - OMG FOR THE SAME REASONS REBEL SCUM HATE MITHEL. TYCHO!!! One squad that can ruin all of your plans - by himself.

#5: Bossk - Angry mode.

LVP award: Luke @CaldiasSkywalker - I usually laugh when Luke is on the opposing team and he's doing nothing. And then he dies and gives me 20 points. Cal is apparantly the only player that has experienced Luke's glory (You should have taken Wedge or Biggs) :) I know he sometimes does **** but he is overpriced and has a tendency to NOT hit the exhaust vent.

Ships...

  1. ISD - I mean common, its an ISD....
  2. Arquitens - with Jerjerrod and in groups they are inescapeable.
  3. Hammerheads - Garel's Honor especially. It takes some practice not just diving into the fray but skirting the edges and timing your attack for optimal efficiency.
  4. MC80 Liberty - It's the Rebel's ISD
  5. Neb-B

Squadrons...

  1. Bossk - he is a beast.
  2. Shara Bey
  3. Howrunner
  4. TIE Interceptors
  5. A-Wings (Counter is king)

Raider Corvette: blue and black armament, crazy speed and maneuverability, add in some OEs, ERs, and Officer to taste. Not always the most effective, but by far the most fun.

Interdictor Cruiser: Opens up a whole range of objective list options, also I'm always a fan of denial abilities.

Victory Star Destroyer: honestly just a solid ship, can fill a number of vital fleet roles, but is never stuck doing just one thing.

Corellian Corvette: Like the Raider, that speed and maneuverability is just a blast to get out on the table. I'm more of a fan of spike damage, and dislike red dice, so it's a bit further down the list.

Arquittens Light Cruiser: Not only a great looking ship, but also a terrifically useful addition to the Imperial Arsenal with reliable ranged output.

Cena Ree: I'm a big interceptor fan, and Cena is just a great upgrade to a solid chasis. Also a big fan of her in the Lost Stars novel.

Marek Steele: Something something. ...I like fast ships and squads, as well as black/blue dice combos....and reliable damage ouput...soooo yeah

TIE Defenders: really just a great jack-of-all-trades squadron. I never feel like I may be missing out with them in the list.

Major Jonus: Can you say "target painting"? Glorious ability, makes a whole slew of fleets work, and helps kill flotillas dead.

Lancer: Actually just a blast to fly with. Excellent keywords, if a bit fragile.

Being a Rebel player, here are my top3:

1. Mon Karren, 'cause with just a title this ship is a real pain for opponents

2. Task Force Antilles, with 3+ HH and external racks

3. Cr90a, first of all because it has always been my favorite ship in the saga (and remember that was the first design for the Falcon :)), and because it's a very good multi-purpose ship in Armada

and

1. Shara Bey, fast, resistant, and be(a)st counter

2. Norra Wexley, and your YW and BW spread more love around

3. XWing, swiss knife among rebel fighters

Top 5 Ships:

1. Imperial II-class Star Destroyer. This ship IS Star Wars. When Rebel players see this ship on the table, they know they HAVE to take it out or they aren't winning anything. Weapons, squadrons, and high command value, makes this ship the ultimate TANK!

2. MC80 Battle Cruiser. The Rebels version of the ISD. Enormous front arc, FIVE Shield, and weapons up the A$$. Pretty much telling the Imperial player, "What, you have a Star Destroyer? Bring it on!"

3. Victory-II class Star Destroyer. The workhorse of the Imperial fleet and a poor man's ISD. It may not be as big as an ISD, but it can pack an ISD punch with the right upgrades. For some reason, the Rebels always seem to underestimate this ship.

4. Assault Frigate Mark II A. It can pretty much do anything and everything at a decent price. This is the ship that the Imperials seem to underestimate.

5. CR90 Corvette A. The first ship ever seen in the movies. It can give Imperial captains indigestion with its speed and maneuverability. Plus with the right upgrades, this ship can pack a wallop!

Top 5 Squadrons:

1. Han Solo. The fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy. Grit, Rogue, 4 anti-squadron and 2 anti-ship. Han is a terror to Imperial forces.

2. Darth Vader. Do i really need to say more?

3. Luke Skywalker. "Shields? What shields?"

4. Marek Steele. When Rebel squadrons see this guy, its usually the last thing they ever see.

5. Morna Kee. What she can do with a VT-49 Decimator is uncanny. She can discard defense tokens and recover them. Very tough ship to kill and if you have a few VT-49s on the table, Rebel commanders usually start to sweat.

For ships, this is amazingly easy to answer:

  1. ISD
  2. ISD
  3. ISD

Squads is a bit more difficult:

  1. Han shot first Solo
  2. Luke I-Kill-Your-Death-Star Skywalker
  3. Darth I-Kill-You Vader
  4. Boba I-F**k-Your-Han Fett
  5. Biggs I-Die-For-You Darklighter

Ships:

1-ISD II Avenger, Biggest hammer in the game, & fun to fly too.

2-MC30 Scout with Foresight & Mothma, Solid little hammer, that will frustrate the **** out of your opponent.

3-Neb B Salvation, hits way above its weight class.

4-MC80 Liberty with Madine, most maneuverable large ship in the game. So much fun to fly.

5-VSD II Corruptor, Best range for bomber alpha strike without any other extras required. Hits just like it flys... like a brick.

Squadrons:

1- Rhymer, even nerfed he still extends threat range.

2-Dengar, makes everything around him better out to range 2.

3- Howlrunner, makes all Swarm squadrons better.

4- TIE Intercepter, never sorry I took them, always worth the points they kill even in Death.

5-Hera, lovely little Squadron that can take a couple friends on an independent romp on the table.

  1. Vic II - This ship has won me so many games and is under estimated. It's good at everything except running away.
  2. Gladiator - I just want to punch you in the face 3 times.
  3. Gozanti - Fear the MW CF double arc. 23 points for 6 damage
  4. Assault Frigate - Similar to the Vic. It's good at any role you put it in. Love the defense tokens and high shields.
  5. Liberty - Double turbolaser

  1. Ciena
  2. Valen
  3. Tycho
  4. Shara
  5. Norra

Ok, I'll play.

Ships:

1. ISD 1 with Boarding Team and Avenger -

2. Mc30 Torpedo with Adv. Proton Torpedos and Ordinance Experts -

3. Mc80 Assault Cruiser - give it enough upgrades and the ship won't likely ever collapse. With Ackbar, it's popping enemy ships each turn if they dare to get close to it.

4. VSD2 with Disposable Capacitors and Gunnery Team - that long range 6 dice is so helpful in fights.

5. CR90 A with Turbolaser Reroute Circuits - it's a cheap attacker that can't be ignored by the enemy.

Squadrons:

1. Ciena Ree - Way more survivable than it looks. A great combo with my #2.

2. Valen Rudor - Pair him with some scatter aces and he'll tear apart the enemy.

3. Zertik Strom - A few points more for that double brace and ability to sacrifice his allies to get some rerolls always helps.

4. X-Wings - My favorite Generic squadron. Good dice for ships and squads, escort, and average speed/health. Can't complain.

5. TIE Defenders - Similar to the X-wing but a touch better. The 2 black/2 blue for anti-squad is killer.

Let's see. Purely ranked by enjoyment of flying them

1: CR90 (best chart in the game)

2: MC30 (Difficult to fly at high speed, but so much fun when it goes well.)

3: Raider (Second best chart in the game.)

4: Arqs (Fun to bring into position, an idosyncratic chart, but a fun one.)

5: Nebulons (Just edges out the Liberty and the ISD, mostly due to the ease of inside turns with small bases. With a nav token or madine, these are fantastic.

Squads, not rated for effectiveness, but rather fun

1: Han (Rogue, grit, shoots first. I don't use him much, but whipping him around the table is fun.)

2: Tycho (He goes where he wants.)

3: Mauler (Quick and deadly.)

4: Corran (Snipe is very satisfying)

5: Jan (Ultimate squad bro, even if she is a lady, she's a great wingman.)

I generally use very few of these (Jan/Mauler as exceptions) but they really amuse me to fly them around.

1. ISD - this is star wars. It looks cool, it's iconic, it's powerful, it's intimidating.

2. MC30 - scrappy little brawler and can really throw a punch

3. CR90 - A very solid ship for it's price range with a lot of flexibility.

4. Gladiator - powerful area denial element and good brawler

5. Assault Frigate Mk2 - all around useful ship

1. YT2400 - powerful all around squadron. Good dice, good range, good hp, rogue.

After that...too many choices.

I am a mainly Rebel player so the list is pretty skewed in that direction. I also prefer longer range and squadron engagements.

1. Home One type MC-80 - I like either version, just depends on what I'm running around it. This thing is the anchor, if I run it correctly it gets shots off any the enemy doesn't even engaged due to it's tankiness. Also had great squadron value.

2. Imperial Star Destroyer II - Stay in position, go slow and tear those ships to pieces. Gunnery team is an auto include on this guy. Oh yeah, and squadrons!

3. GR-75 Medium Transports - Don't leave home without 'em! 20 points for a comms net which can token up your other guys OR push to squadrons? YEP!

4. Assault Frigate Mk II B - As long as this guy has an ECM on board it will hang around long enough to cause some trouble. Also fun with gunnery teams!

5. CR-90 A/B - It took me a long time to learn to fly this guy well but now I love it, with Jaina's Light of course!

Squadrons:

1. X-Wing - Plain Jane X-Wings are awesome for the cost. They keep your other stuff flying AND can go in for bombing run. Pair with Bomber command for great success!

2. Jan Ors - I believe that you always need an intel squadron, Jan does that AND keeps your fighters in the scrum longer.

3. Marek Stele - This guy is a death machine to ships AND squadrons. Sure he's pricey but he usually kills his cost in enemies and then some.

4. Lambda Shuttles - Strategic AND two relay? These guys MAKE the Imperial fighter game.

5. TIE Advanced - I don't have a warm and fuzzy for these guys, but they are a must include in Imp squadrons for me. Always gotta have escorts and intel in your fighter wing!

I'm sorry, how did you get hold of my squadron list for this weekend?

Ships:

  1. VSD - Since DCaps and QBT launched, I'm finding it hard to not base lists around these guys.
  2. ISD - Only knocked from top by VSD's new breath of life.
  3. Interdictor - I adore control pieces.
  4. CR90 - I still think these are incredibly fun to fly.
  5. MC80 - My Achilles heel in most games I face them. It's oddly comforting having a nemesis.

Squadrons:

  1. Mauler - Pure value.
  2. Valen/Ciena - I mean, they're basically a permanently attached pair, right?
  3. Wedge/Dutch - Same. That pairing is dynamite.
  4. Han Solo - That pilot ability...
  5. Decimators - I desperately want to make them work better...

It's good to hear that people know a good squad composition too.

I used this to win our Nationals. Quite effective.

Right!

1.LMC80: my favorite. It's a hammer in your hands, able to punch high and fly well. Looks good too.

2. Nebulon B: so much support, so much versatility, so hard to fly.

3. Hammerhead: cheap swarm ship, some serious options for left field play.

4. AFMK 2: Good all rounder, won't win the war, but will help. Able to Patch holes in your fleet nicely and add more other places.

5. MC 30: made for fightin an winnin. Can't say anything that hasn't already been said.

Fighters

1. B wing : slow but I still like it

2. Y wing: I may just like bombers.

3. X wing: good all rounder not too slow can do a little bit of everything.

4. A wing: I just like um.

Honestly I really like fighter pack 1 I can always seem to use it in my plan some where.

Ships:

1. ISD-II (because I love seeing it on the table if nothing else)

2. VSD-II (my first angry space triangle)

3. GSD (because black dice out all sides just doesn't get old)

4. Quasar (squadron alpha-strike madness)

5. Arquitens (good general purpose snipy ship)

Squads:

1. TIE Interceptors (speed 5 + lots of dice)

2. Lambda-class shuttle (incredibly helpful + looks awesome)

3. Howlrunner (always good for some extra dice)

4. Maarek Steele (because bomber and 2 blue dice with Sloane is absolutely terrifying)

5. TIE Defender (generally a decent all-round squad)
