I feel like list building got a lot easier, but now I'm stuck at a quandrary... what's the point in playing with Ship X? Why not just go with ISD BT Avenger, or Yavaris, or the Ackbar MC80 or the super efficient MC30s?

Why should I try and build a list with 2 Raiders, or 3 Afmk2? Heck, Victory lists, that we prophecized as coming back haven't really appeared. Why bother? There's better (easier to use) choices.

Why do I use one large ship? Why 2 small ships? Medium ships are caught in a struggle to the death with activation primacy, and the simplification of theory to reducing and equalizing activation power.

These are the existential questions of my list building.

Play 700-800 points. Problem solved.

ISDs can't throw 6-8 dice at long range like a VSD can with Capacitors.

TallGiraffe good point. however, damage isn't the point. Deleting ships is the point, and if Avenger BT does it better for cheaper, I'd go with that. Both BT and Caps are one time deals. Though both the VSD possibly getting into a midrange frontal shot and the ISd getting a close range shot are pretty powerful.

That's more your meta than anything really. Like, we have VSDs and Raiders all over the place here. If you want to build something with 2 Raiders, do it because its a good addition to your list and what your commander does. Ackbar 3 AF can still get work done.

Relativelyto magic the gathering (ugh, I know), but the better players there are the ones who try different things out and see what combos they can get to work in their decks. So, experiment and find something you want to use, it might be a lot better than you'd think!

You run DC+GT Vics to kill 2 flotillas or kill a flotilla and strip shields off a target. And you do it cheaper than an ISD.

I appreciate the advice. Though, I haven't really played much at all, so its not actually my meta I'm commenting, more just whats been winning and posted on the forums.

I've not wanted to run Ackbar 3 AF mostly cuz I feel like the conga line is easily countered. as for 2 raiders... I haven't found a list that really wants them... ISd seems to want Demo and flots. for MSU... almost want 3 raiders, but not 2. Something like 2 VSDs 2 Raiders and a flot might be intersting, but I fear that might be really high on points.

I actually quit magic when I found Xwing and Armada. =) Got tired of reading oodles of text in multiplayer, fancy ways to kill people got boring.

Pretty much this. Or a wayward CR90/Raider.

What I love about Armada is that there is no "Golden List". For the most part every ship and every squadron have their place, some more than others but you can be competitive running just about anything. The important thing is knowing what your list does well and what it doesn't do well. Then stick to its strong points and don't get flustered and try and make your list do something it isn't designed to do. I love that every list has flaws and every list has its Kryptonite. Currently my primary opponent and I switch things up pretty well, each week we swap factions, just because playing Imperials vs. Rebels is more fun. We constently try new things and eventually run through every ship. That said, he almost always comes with a max squadron list, its the one thing I can count on.

What would make list building boring to me is knowing there are just one or two competitive lists and my chances of countering them were minimal. I love just putting lists together, probably 90% never hit the playmat but I have a ball making them. My next list features 6 YV-666's (one is Bossk), its gonna be a blast. I'll likely never run the list again but I can't wait to give it a try.

Why not? My ISD can do it. With the right titel the ISD can be devastating.
