Utterly lack the motivation to play

Proxy GUNBOAT until GUNBOAT sails to our shores. And then GUNBOAT will rule all the lists! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

After playing a bunch of fairly strong lists at tournaments recently my last two games were using a random collection of older ships against similar lists and it was a lot of fun. Maybe try going old school, using TIE swarms, Interceptors, X-Wings (that aren't Biggs) against similar style lists.

I think it's quite common at the end of a tournament season to feel burn-out and the current meta seems to be a bit worse for this than normal, probably because so many of the top meta lists are a long way removed from the core concepts of the game (planning moves, arc dodging, red dice vs green dice).

Or take this opportunity to take a complete break. Sometimes you just fall out of love with a game and if that happens there's no requirement to keep playing just for the sake of it.

I agree, the actual meta ain't too fun nor challenging to play.

Let's just hope that the new ships will bring some more options to the mats.

Take a break. 2-3 months should do it. Play something else. It's only natural after playing for a long time.

Epic. HotAC. Starter missions. Lots of ways to play that aren’t 100/6

Rocket League.

Look at how much you have spent on the game, once you've recovered from the shock you'll realise that you have to keep playing just to keep buyers remorse at bay.

A lot of people in our gaming group are feeling the same (me included). With 3x Scouts back in the meta, it feels like we've come full circle.

We've just organised a Wave 1-3 league to try and inject some interest back into the game. Only wave 1-3 ships, but all upgrades excluding Palp and TLT. There's a few other minor changes to help with balance, but We're all looking forward to it. It will be good to see the classic ships back in the game.

Here are some options!

1. Dont play for a bit. Its completely fine. Its the least important decision you will make today.

2. Stay off the internet or any list builder for the next 4 weeks. Do not listen to any podcasts or watch any videos about X-Wing during this time. Studies have shown that your opinions about the game will improve immeasurably without hearing other people constantly complaining about the correct way to play X-Wing or the specific thing that is the worst and is destroying it.

It does feel a little like this is the only reason I’m still trying to find excuses to play this game...

Here's my advice, from someone who went through the same thing: don't play.

Seriously, don't force yourself or you'll only turn your disillusionment into resentment. I fell completely out of interest in the game after 2016 nationals. I had a great time there, and met some amazing people, but competitive play had burned me out. I left it a few months before getting back to eventually. Regionals 2017 rolled around and I decided to take something silly instead of something actually competitive, and made it to Top 8 by having fun instead. Of course, then I saw the preview article for the Scurrg and immediately hung up my flight boots again until just the last few weeks.

That said, the thing that helped me not totally give up playing it was, oddly, Armada. It scratched and itch for me that X-wing never did, and when I did play X-wing afterward, I wasn't looking for something from it that wasn't there. I just enjoyed it for what it was, and felt much better for it. I'm not saying Armada is what you need, but taking time out to dive into another game that'll give you that satisfaction is probably going to help your desire to play. At the very least, it'll help you realise what it was that hooked you originally, and let you focus on that.

Have some breakfast.

This breakfast is so OP. Pancakes should be nerfed down to a 3 stack and bacon should be outright banned. Then someone might actually eat some sausage patties once in a while.

That's crazy talk. There's absolutely no reason to put sausage on the table when bacon's available.

Have you tried "Fog of War" version? All upgrade cards on a ship are facedown until that effect comes into play. This way you aren't sure who has what on what ship and you have to fly with a bit of hesitation as you don't know 100% what you are facing. Makes it a little more tense and exciting.

This
2 weeks
1 month
2 months
3 months
maybe forever
It just depends, its natural for people to lose interest in things. For example I dont play WoW, 40k, warmachine/hordes anymore, they don't interest me anymore. **** I'm 100% sure there will come a point where I no longer play X-Wing, and after that I will lose interest in "New Game 2019" and move on to something else.

Take a break from community forums (ex. here, r/xwingtmg, facebook groups, etc.) to get away from being over inundated, or otherwise limit your exposure.

Take up something else to fill in that time, like reading, movies, painting mini's, learn a new skill you've been considering.

If your local store/group is a hyper competitive one that typically flies cutting edge meta lists, maybe try some other formats that force a shakeup in the meta and what will be "best" to play like a Wave 1-3 series, epic campaign missions, etc.

Play something different? And if you have not done already get some nice display glas for your minis, works of a reminder, so you will get them out when you are in the mood for it again.

Best part about that is that you stay this way away from all the negativity of the community forums. This alone should make X-Wing life twice as enjoyable. ;-)

I think you nailed modern day internet in this one line.

Can't recommend HotAC enough as a cure for 100/6 burnout, followed swiftly by Epic and Mario Kart.

Seriously just try thinking outside the 100/6 box and the game really comes alive in a new way.

Of course the ultimate cure for burnout is, as mentioned already, taking a break.

Start a Imperial Assault campaign with some buddies. That’s what I’m doing (that and the Vassal league).

The Sunnyside up eggs are undercooked and could prove dangerous. Definitely should be banned.

Play all generics at 150-200 points on 6x3. Add ion clouds and static mines as new obstacles.

It'll look like a Star Wars space battle plus won't have a meta.

Smiles and Dials. That's what you need.

This sounds great except for one small problem. I won't be able to remember what I brought ! My opponent and I will both be surprised by my build!
