Career and Specilisation

By EddyBar, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

Hey all, just joined as I need help choosing my career and specialisation

So I'm building a gungan jedi before he falls to the dark side and would want to a class and specialisation with the skills:

  • Lightsaber
  • Negotiation
  • Skulduggery
  • Deception

If such a career/specialisation combination doesn't exist the next best would be ideal

Cheers :)

I think that the closest you're gonna get is Sentinel Shien Expert or Sentry (no negotiation in either but have the other 3). If you want negotiation you'll have to do something in mystic or consular.

Consular/Arbiter would be your negotiating saberist.

Your aggressive negotiator , that is.

Don't get too caught up in Skills, you don't need to have access to the skill to be good at it, much less just use it.

That said Negotiate is Presence, while Skulduggery and Deception are Cunning. So while you look to have the most synergy/focus in Cunning (making Shien a good choice), going strong into both Cunning and Presence is going to make you very Social Skill oriented. That said, Cool is also 50% of initiatives (maybe less, in-play, if you're gonna go Dark Side/be the aggressor) so it's not a horrible choice.

Now, look at Mystic. You can get your Decption and Negotiation in its Specs, as well as the Presence-Lightsaber skill synergy. And going strongish into Cunning is always a solid choice for most PCs as it is a quite diverse Charateristic.

Makashi is better for Melee/Lightsaber dueling, Shien is perhaps better as a general LS Spec. So what you want to do with your Lightsaber would probably drive my choice, were I you. How many Lightsaber battles do you see yourself getting into, vs. blasters?

In a pinch, a Sentinel Shadow can get you what you're looking for by using the Well-Rounded talent, but I agree with emsquared that you may not need all the career skills you think you need.

You can also pick up a second specialization later to fill in skill ranks (and more importantly, talents) that the first one doesn't provide, and with a decent Cunning you'd be reasonably effective at Skulduggery and Deception at the outset.

I'd go with the recommendations and work with something cunning oriented instead of focusing too much on negotiation initially, Shadow is a good call although you dont get many talents that help with lightsabers ,you do get the talent well rounded early on which lets you choose 2 new skills as career skills, which lets you pick up the negotiation and lightsaber skills as career skills . If you also pick up one of the bread and butter Shadow force powers influence , you can bolster your social skills with influence, in particular the Control:skills upgrade.

Later on, you can pick up shien expert (for standard lightsaber combat) or sentry(if you want specialise in ranged saber combat). If you use either of these you can just pay the extra xp to buy a rank of 2 of lightsaber out of career and pick up another skill with well rounded knowing you will pick up lightsaber later as a career skill. I wouldnt get too hung up on XP economy unless you plan on buying 5 ranks of an out of career skill because at that stage it would usually be cheaper to buy a spec with the career skill first.
