Weird.... But let me know

By cybercat07, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey so I've seen that rebel Nym has been making some noise and I wanted to take a crack at it... I'm flying him with a turret, Jake, and shara or Thane, to back him up.

Jake Ferrel (27)

Auto thrusters, A wing test pilot, veteran instincts, intensity, refit

Captain Nym (41)

Twin laser turret, Gunner

Shara Bey (31)

Overhaul, r7t1

Or....

Thane (31)

Vectored thrusters, overhaul, recon specialist

Please recommend any thing you feel is necessary or better. Or let me know if I'm into something here!!!

TLT and gunner?

That's not the noise Nym is making.

Gunner would only trigger if both TLT shots miss, and all you have is an expensive turret. Nym's hotness is more about his backside, in bombing.

A more-standard Nym (VI, TLT, Bomblet Generator, Havoc, Genius, Advanced Sensors or Accuracy Corrector) comes in at 43 points. I like the slim Jake as a cheap Rebel ship.

So that'd leave 30 points for a 3rd ship. If I wanted to shave points, I'd first consider Jake by dropping VI to Adaptability (PS 9 vs 8 isn't as important as 9 vs 10 on Nym), or maybe put FCS in the sensors slot on Nym instead of one of the 3-point upgrades. So we could go all the way up to 32 points on a 3rd ship if necessary.

For ARC, don't forget Stress Braylen. R3-A2, Alliance Overhaul, and some crew. Gunner is classic at 32, Baze works OK at 30, or Tactician at 29.

For Thane, I kind of like the idea of Jyn Erso more than Recon Specialist. This can allow Thane to either stack focus as per RecSpec, but also toss Focus tokens onto someone else (Jake, for example, for mid-combat boosts or barrel rolls). I'd run Adaptability Jake, and put R2-D6 on Thane to get Trick Shot. R5 Astromech would also probably be solid. At 6 hull, you'll have a larger chance of getting nasty Ship crits you can flip face down. R5 is a kind of underrated astromech, and it'd probably see it's strongest use on Thane in particular.

I don't see a benefit to Shara Bey in this list. There isn't really someone you *NEED* to get a target lock onto. TLT doesn't really need it that much, nor does 2-dice Jake.

My Final List:

Nym (VI, TLT, Bomblet Generator, Havoc, Genius, [Advanced Sensors or Accuracy Corrector]) - 43

Jake (A-Wing Test Pilot, Intensity, Adaptability, Chardaan Refit, Autothrusters) - 26

Thane (Overhaul, Vectored Thrusters, Jyn Erso, [R5 Astromech or R2-D6 + Trick Shot]) - 31

Thanks for the input guys! I wanted to try something different with Nym but I'll just go with his bombing.

I like the idea of M9-G8 on Thane, which you could get by dropping Vectored Thrusters. This could give you re-rolls on Nym's TLTs and also force anyone who shoots Thane to reroll their shot. This can pair really well with Weapons Engineer allowing you to TL Nym + whoever shoots Thane but Jyn is a good choice too.

Nym has the tools to fly as a heavy fighter or turret ship without bombs. Different, but wasting his pilot ability. In the same point range the Rebels have Poe, Norra and Miranda. Their pilot abilities don’t depend on bombing, and they are all harder to kill than Nym. Nym’s ability is the only thing going for him over those other three pilots. Bomblet Generator is only 3 points. Take it and be unconventional with the rest of Nym’s upgrades.

Ever have one of those moments where you feel like a tool for not thinking of something so simple? You just created that situation for me lol Thank you and great call!
