"Time Periods" in Destiny?

By BrianV, in Star Wars: Destiny

Several of the things I've been wanting to see in SW: Destiny have happened recently, especially with the new announced set (viable support/vehicle play, weapons/vehicles that play well with their owners, lower cost versions of OT characters to play together, cards to use left over points from builds), which reminds me of something else I wish were in this game...

I personally really like to play character builds that make sense thematically. In Imperial Assault they have "Time Periods", I would have loved to have seen that in this game. Just a little symbol or designation at the bottom of cards so if you really wanted to play a game that actually made sense time-wise (not mandatory) and put on an OT tourney or prequels tourney for example, it would be really easy to do. Would be difficult now, but as the card pool grows, would be really fun. Anyone else wish they had done this? I can't be the only one that wish this game had more thematic elements.

TL;DR = Anyone else wish their were Time Period symbols/text like in IA to this game for optional play that was more thematic timeline-wise?

I totally agree. That would have been nice.

Oh well, I guess that's why it's called a game of "saga-spanning" dice duels...

I feel it doesn't really fit the concept of the game - there was clearly an intent to make the game span all eras of the franchise, compared to pretty much every other FFG SW game that limits it to the Galactic Civil War period. Taking that away feels like it would kind of defeat the point.

Of course, there's no reason you can't house rule something for it anyway.

No, I like that the game spans all eras. Just wish there were little icons at the bottom that signified a time period so if you wanted to (completely optional) you could play so that your game made sense time-wise. So you could be like hey, let's do something different and just play prequels timeline for the next tourney and then it would be really easy to organize.

Luckily, I think it’s still pretty easy to do this - you can just make up a list of all the characters who exist in the prequels and then publish that. The list will get a lot longer as time progresses, but right now it’s not going to be a huge deal. For example, if you want to do a prequels tournament, just put on Facebook, your FLGS’ website, or however you’re organizing it:

”this is a Prequels-only tournament. No characters will be allowed except those listed below:

General Grievous

Count Dooku

Nightsister

Jango Fett

Padawan

Qui-Gon Jinn

Padme Amidala

Asaaj Ventress

Darth Vader (Dark Apprentice)

Aurra Sing

Luminara Unduli

Jedi Acolyte

MagnaGuard

Quinlan Vos

Bossk

Cad Bane

Jedi Instructor

Mace Windu”

One can always build thematic decks on their own unless that thematic deck is putting the ESB bounty hunters together.

I have in the back of my head a set of preconstructed decks that follow episodes 1-7, clone wars, and rebels, recreating the great fight scenes in those movies using characters and cards from the game. Ideally it would allow two players to cinematically play enough the great matchups in the movie, for ex Luke and Han versus a bunch of tie fighters. We are nearly getting to the point where this is doable !
