@Kieransi They actually gave a link in the main article, easy to miss though. https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2017/2/28/there-has-been-an-awakening-1/

Alright. There’s actually no “link” in that article, but they do talk about printing schedule. I think the wording of this article was odd and confused everyone, but I don’t think they’re talking about rotation - they seem to be talking about the printing schedule and when things will and won’t be available in stores. I don’t see anything talking about an actual rotation in the article.

Base sets will remain in print as much as possible for one year, after which they will be replaced by a new base set.”

I don’t think this means rotation, I think it means it’s replacing them on the shelves of stores. Chalk another one up to FFG not understanding how CCGs work...

There isn't anything to rotation other than they plan to do it at some point in the future. I thought they talked rotation in the same article they talked about the printing schedule and maybe they did and then later removed it. I do know they said they will do a rotation at the same time they announced the extra printings. Anyways, you now know as much as anyone about rations, including those working FFG most likely.

I misread the article. The issue may be with scarcity of the 2017 sets. FFG is not really on top of things when it comes to rotation, but two years seems reasonable. Allowing product that's impossible to find outside of the aftermarket for too long won't really help them on any level. People are still irked about their poor inventory levels , distributor allocation, and in some cases flooding with the reprint of Awakenings.

So my old boxes of Homelands are finally worth something? There's a little more to it, especially with Magic and their multiple formats.

Well yes there is more to it but I was mostly mentioning the top two things that cause that set or single cards to go up. The first is being Out of Print, once a product is not available on a casual whim and must be hunted down the price goes up. Now you have other things such as extended formats as well as if there are actually any cards within a set that are worth a ****. But to apply it to just the Vader example is the same boat as Black Lotus or Force of Will. Not in the same category of power wise as those two but Vader will always be in demand and price will only go up the further we get from Awakenings being in print and as the stock of still sealed Awakenings boxes dwindles.

There is virtually no comparison to make between Old Vader and Black lotus:

-Black lotus was present in 3 expansions only, and each expansion very low qty (Around 2.7M alpha, 7M beta, a little bit more for unlimited) and impossible to find (None of those expansion in my home town, not a single card and almost none in all province). Darth Vader come from a relatively hard to find expansion at first, but that expansion has been reprinted in huge number (Too high for demand), it is still available and will be for some time.

-Magic saw the player base growing fast and steady... SWD had several player upfront, but is stalling at the moment, so more cards, no new players. BTW, not that I don't want, i'd like to see 10x more player in SWD...

-Black Lotus was broken, OP, broke most concept of the game (...1 land per turn... but no restriction per turn on 0 cost artifacts). It was restricted to 1 per deck in early days of magic. Darth Vader is a good charater, but well balanced and relatively unstable damage wise (1/3 chance to roll damage per dice), since fan of movies like the card, combined with game play, it is worth +/-50$. But save this post if you want and wait 2 years, but its value will be around 50$ again... or much lower. Again, i'd really like to see older SWD cards gain value, but it is unlikely.

Chak

Note: If we all want to see our cards gain value, everyone convice 10 of your friends to play SWD, that way some expansion will be out of stock and we might see some excitment when someone plays either Darth Vader, Poe etc...

I love the Bomber with Hera. Throw it down for free with her ability. Roll it, resolve it, maybe use Strategic Planning to use it again and then return it to your hand at the end of the round before it has the three damage counters on it.

Was Empire at war Lukas last set, or is the new one his last set?

Would FFG do a reboot of the game with the new designer?

Didn't Lukas just announce he was leaving? The set after this one is probably on the way to the factory right now. Unless Lukas was moved to a different project 6 months ago, he was designing through this set and the next.

No, FFG will not reboot this game. They will be hiring a new designer to add to the team to replace Lukas, but he wasn't the only one working on Destiny.

Most likely Lukas second in command will become top dog (I forget his name). This is a good thing.

Yeah Lukas will have had a hand in legacies and likely the set following it. They'll continue with a different lead designer. Changing up the design team is something FFG does all the time across their product lines, and I honestly think that it's ultimately good for the games if they change hands periodically.
