New Starters....looks very interesting
DESTINIES!!!
Plot cards - Use you character points for something.
New Mechanics - Power Action and Indirect Damage.
Looks good.
Looks like our predictions for new mechanics came true.
Really liking the look of this one!
Yay! I am really excited! Palpatine needs some help, and Plot cards will really help him out! Also, Plot cards will really help new players more effectively use all their points - I can’t tell you how many times when I was starting out I had to use only 25 points if I wanted to run my favorite characters.
Also, not sure what I think of new dice sides and Power Actions. I think it’s really cool, don’t get me wrong, I just think it’s too bad because so many other cards should have had these things, so it makes the game a little inconsistent. But on the flipside, I’m glad they’re not afraid to let the game evolve!
And the new characters are awesome.
My only anxiety is those starter only cards, I hope it's not a repeat of the first starters. We don't need another bookmark.

All cards share the same symbol and we have number above 160, so I think history will repeat
How can they say a new 160 card set and then show cards numbered 168 and 171 . so not a 160 card set then

There are 160 cards that will appear in Booster Packs. The cards with Gray (fixed) rarity will be starter-only, but they still get numbered as part of the set. Same thing happened with Awakenings.
Is a new base set going to lead to rotation? I know this has been asked before but now we have more info. So.....

Eventually, yes. Probably after 3 years of the game's life.
I personally think it’s more likely they’ll do a most wanted/banned list like in Android: Netrunner.

Did they walk back their original plan to rotate out everything that was released this year?
And.. Indirect Damage... hope they do it right this time.

One doesn't preclude the other. Netrunner is going to have rotation. MtG has rotation and also a ban list.
They stated rotation will happen and gave no other details because they simply haven't decided yet.
We'll find out eventually but I doubt it will be this year.
Also, oh FFG, what were you thinking......

So two resources and two cards instead of three resources to get an AT-ST in play? Perhaps theynwere thinking “Why isn’t anyone using AT-ST?”. It’s only about $8 on the singles market, get yours now before the run on them starts!

I do not EVER remember them saying they would rotate out everything from this year. They said they would do rotation but they never said when. Also no way they would ever do it after only 1 year. People would be massively upset at things like Ahsoka or Mace only getting 3-4 months and then being told they cant use them. No company in their right mind would rotate out sets after only a year.

Yeah as Rookie said drop the Agenda and just play Delve straight from hand. Also its not like AT-STs where making top 4 in Nationals. Though this does make my e-Cienna e-Jango deck a LOT better, this AND the plot that gives me a extra resource to start since the deck is exactly 3 points undercosted.

Try a Thrawn / Unkar vehicle deck. They can put an AT-ST out in turn one.
I’m not sure I get the whole rotation thing... like, I get that it’ll be needed maybe five or six years from now when there’s just too many cards and Awakenings Vader is several hundred dollars on the second-hand market, but I don’t get why people keep clamoring for it.
I think that the larger the card pool is, the more diverse the meta. Back with only Awakenings, a lot of characters like General Grievous never hit the table just because there weren’t good pairings for them. I kind of like the idea of more options, because it makes the game more dynamic and you don’t neccesarily already know exactly what you’re going to see before you even start playing.
And people keep citing this nebulous “oh, FFG said there’ll be a rotation”, but I’ve never seen anyone post a link for that, so I have no idea whether to believe that or not.

Its partially also the problem of the bigger the card pool, the more playtesting needed, and the more likely broken **** makes it through. Lets assume that even with Lukas leaving they keep up their current level of QA and testing. They have been missing things with just two sets, a total of roughly 350 cards, interacting with each other. Now what do you think will happen when your talking 700 cards, or 1500 cards interact? At that point things will become a mess trying to keep the game from spiraling out of control. So to preemptively fix this you set a rotation in places.
Lets say they rotate every two years. When they go to design the 2018 base set they would be able to ignore all of the cards from Awakenings/Spirit/ and Empire as well as the 2 player starter as that is going to rotate out. It simply makes it easier to balance and test future releases when you know you dont need to test against certain other cards. Or as an example someone goes "Hey this new card maybe kind of broken with Palpatine" the answer "Well that wont matter as he will rotate out when the set releases".
Now should we already be worrying about rotation? No we should not, as it will be AT LEAST a 2 year, if not 3 year cycle. Which means everything before Legacies shouldnt rotate out until somtime in December 2018, and if it is a 3 year cycle make that December 2019.

Also the price of Vader will go up regardless of him being in rotation or not. Force of Will isnt in rotation for Standard for Magic and its still a 70+ dollar card. Heck Black Lotus is still restricted in ALL formats its available in if I remember and even if it isnt those things are 3K plus each. Rotating out doesnt increase the price per se, its when the sets go Out of Print and you cant find boxes anymore that the single price goes through the roof.
@GamerGuy1984 , thanks!
I still don’t understand two things though:
1. Why are people clamoring for rotation? What’s Star Wars without the iconic characters? I get that the characters will probably be released again in a new form, but what about characters that aren’t? For example: I really like General Veers. I think he’s as iconic of a villain as Boba Fett, because he has a similar amount of skills and screen time in Episode V. There’s no guarantee he’ll show up again. Same goes for Cad Bane fans, Aurra Sing fans, etc.
2. Where did FFG say they’d do rotation? I can’t find a link anywhere. This game has a lot less cards than MTG, and MTG is on a two-year rotation schedule, so given FFG’s lack of CCG experience, I find it unlikely they’d do less than four years.

People are likely "clamoring", I dont think they are I think people are simply discussing it not actively wanting it, because of annoying cards. CCGs become unwieldy with a FAQ so many actively dislike the idea of FAQ/Errataing cards. The easier way is a Ban list, or for the cards to rotate out. Also Id bet that Characters are the number one things on FFGs list to reprint if/when they Rotate out. People want Vader so you can bet that the set that comes in and rotates out Awakenings will either A) have a direct Vader reprint or B) a new version.
As for where they said I dont know for sure. But given every CCG does use rotation, and the fact that FFG have said their other card games, yes they are LCGs not CCGS, will have a rotation tends to indicate they will have one sooner or later.
Also people kind of want to know the timing of it more so then actually seeing their stuff rotate out. People are more likely to buy things if its going to go for a while. Im sure there are people who would buy quit a bit more of Awakenings or the other sets out if they knew it had another 2-3 years on its life. With the possibility of it rotating out next year, not saying just assuming for point making, it makes spending more on the current stuff a little less desireable.

Yeah, there are so many ways to get an extra resource turn 1, hidden agenda is just one example as is AT ST. Though the plot would be more consistent. That card lets decks that normally don't generate a ton of resources, yes that means you Unkar/Thrawn, still pull out big stuff turn one. It's a very boom or bust card but still....
@Kieransi They actually gave a link in the main article, easy to miss though. https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2017/2/28/there-has-been-an-awakening-1/

I misread the article. The issue may be with scarcity of the 2017 sets. FFG is not really on top of things when it comes to rotation, but two years seems reasonable. Allowing product that's impossible to find outside of the aftermarket for too long won't really help them on any level. People are still irked about their poor inventory levels , distributor allocation, and in some cases flooding with the reprint of Awakenings.

So my old boxes of Homelands are finally worth something? There's a little more to it, especially with Magic and their multiple formats.
