Worth your EPT for an Evade action?

By kris40k, in X-Wing

Edit: Nevermind, missed someone already started this conversation earlier today.

So with the TIE Silencer is a Small Ship Only EPT that supposedly will do something like for an action, give you up to X Evade tokens equal to the number of obstacles at Y range of you. The guess is up to 2 tokens and range 1 of obstacles. Its been pointed out that the Silencer itself lacks the Evade action. I don't see many people not taking VI for the PS war or PtL for AdvSensor and reposition games, but it got me thinking about what small ships would you give up the EPT for to get the ability to get Evade tokens?

It shouldn't be too hard to stay within range of at least one rock unless your opponent brought 3 small rocks and tossed all your large rocks in the far corner, so it should be a usable EPT; I just think the EPT slot is very valuable for other uses.

My guess is a TLT Hwk best fits the bill, prefarably with the title or Rey crew. That way you canfocus+evade for defense. Flying next to obstacles is easier with a TLT. If you go scum, Dengar crew gives you reasonable offensive output and title + ept gives you strong defense.

Another option might be Guri with FCS. Guri likes them obstacles, lacks a natural evade, can get focus and TL from ability and FCS and has no specific perfect fit EPT as is.

Laetin A'Shera finally becomes useful... oh wait she doesn't have an EPT slot.

Guri is way better off with Intensity. It's under your control, and you can use it wherever.

Palob, maybe?

I think it depends a lot on the cost. Personally I'm hoping it's only 1 pt, because you have to trade your action economy slot to add an action possibility to your bar.

Anyways, for Imperials I think it could do some nice work on Tie/D defenders:

Col. Vessery (35) + Ion Cannon (3) + Evade Ept (1) + Tie/D (0) = 39 points

  • Vessery has inherent attack mods, so this allows him to tank better than normal Tie/D's while still hitting hard and costing less than an Expertise variant

Countess Ryad (34) + Ion Cannon (3) + Evade Ept (1) + Tie/D (0) + Experimental Interface (3) = 41 points

  • Ryad is the only defender that really has the dial to use Experimental Interface, but now she represents focus + evade, for really nice defense. Once it's her turn to fire, if she still has her focus token it's gonna hurt.

Tie/SFs can combine it with Advanced Optics and FCS to be a bit more defensive:

Backdraft (27) + FCS (2) + Advanced Optics (2?) + Evade Ept (1?) + LWF (2) + Title = 34 points

  • You can bank a focus in advance, and then leverage rocks for a lot of tokens in the scrum. I don't like Comms relay with the EPT, since it locks you out of getting multiple tokens. Overall, an Intensity + Primed Thrusters build probably accomplishes something very similar, but can't stack tokens quite as efficiently. Interestingly, Youngster can also fit with SF squads to keep their EPT open but still provide access to Evades.

Some other ships that might be fun:

Double Edge (19) + Evade Ept (1) + TLT (6) + LWF (2) = 28 points

  • Fly near asteroids, evade up, and plink?

Gamma Squadron Veteran (19) + Evade Ept (1) + Mara Jade (3) + Ops Spec. (3) + LWF (2) + Tie Shuttle (0) = 28 pts

  • Charge in, evade up, hopefully block someone. With luck, Mara can stress bomb a few ships and ops spec can hand out some focuses to your team - seems like a fun, resilient little battering ram against a list with several ships!

...but my biggest regret - can you imagine a world where Kir Kanos had an EPT like he should have?

Kir Kanos (24) + Evade EPT (1) + Autothrusters (2) + Experimental Interface (3) + RGP (0) = 30 points

  • Kir Kanos could see play; with good positioning, he could get Focus Evade Evade every turn for a nice defense + "4" dice shot. This would have been so fun :( *sigh* maybe someday we'll get a +EPT title...

If the Evade EPT is only 1 point, might be worth it to put on Green Squadron with Test Pilot. You could then take another Rebel ship with Swarm Leader and feed them Evades while still keeping a defensive edge and allowing them to have an additional EPT. Corran could potentially pump out two 6 dice attacks into close proximity of an enemy.

On the Imperial Side, sticking this on a couple of Black Squadron pilots and flying them in formation with Echo or Whisper could give you a 7 dice shot under similar conditions.

Obviously the former depends on the EPT not being Imperial Only and both depend on it not being Unique.

It's not imperial only, nor unique.

Hmm, think I have a good reason to bring some huge ships to use as obstacles in the future.

Shame you can't do this at higher events like regionals or nationals. It would add so much cool factor to the table. Of course at locals it's up to the TO and casual who cares?! It's in the rule book.

I house ruled that day 1. Ept on him and he's the best

He can do 1, as Jan takes a stress after using her ability and so wouldn't be available to do it for the second attack. Using the two Elite Ties with the EPT, Jan, and Corran with Swarm Leader puts you at 97 points.

Echo, even with ACD, FCS, and Gunner along with 2 BS Ties with the EPT would leave you 26 points to spend. That's potentially two 7 dice attacks for the Phantom (assuming the first one somehow misses), a TL for the next turn, and a cloaking action as soon as it fires.

On another note, I wonder how much Evade token stacking would assist against TLT?

And would Tactical Jammer trigger it? Imagine a Decimator slinging out PWT 4-6 dice shots while the TIEs are hiding behind it and protected from almost any kind of attack?

Guri is way better off with Attanni Mindilink..................;)

Anyway, this EPT looks nice on the Starviper itself.
