Vassal league: How is it going?

By IG88E, in X-Wing

So how is it going?

Any news? Good battle reports? Prominent participants? Cyber brawls?

I haven't lost a game yet!

You can look around here

There are some interesting lists being played. Also...

Doesn't make my statement untrue!!! :P

I almost didn't join, but I am very glad I did. The Mon Calamari division in the Outer Rim is a group of completely new people to me, and they're all great. We're a little slow getting started, but my Doom Strikers snagged another win, which makes me happy!

So far so good. I migrated everything on challonge to listjuggler this season and so far it is simpler. And our slack integrations are very nice. That plus the current killer state of Vassal makes it all apple pie and coffee for me.

I figured out how to actually play on Vassal the other day. So I may join, we’ll see. @Parakitor I may need your help sometime when you’re free :)

0-2 but having a blast. First game I ever played on vassal was against THEZACKMATHEWSCAROLINAKRAYTSPODCAST. It was fun. And harpoons are mean.

This is my first time and I must say that so far I am REALLY impressed. I just wish it were easier to schedule games, but hopefully I can get them all in before the deadline.

I'm in inner rim for my third season. Got second place the last two seasons.

1-1 so far. Could have been easily 0-2 with the very unfavorable squad matchups I had so I'll gladly take my record.

This is my first season, and I am also super impressed and having a wonderful time. To the staff and everyone who has helped make the league what it is, I am especially grateful for listjuggler, the use of Slack and all the custom cool apps (shout out to my bros Lobot & R2-D7!). I love that it's free to play, I love that nearly every game has a log file available for download, and I love that there will be cool prizes. My division is in the Unknown Reaches, Planet Kariek, 5-J. I am lucky to be in this division as we seem more active in the start than most other divisions, and everyone has been really great to play with and chat with. And... a totally self-serving brag, my wookiees are on their way to fully liberating the sector, check out my record and my games here: http://lists.starwarsclubhouse.com/league_player?player_id=1615

Nice! Whats your tactic?

Would Jake instead of one Wookie be good too? Or ist the triple tactician neccessary?

My strategy is to keep my wookiees loose, pick the right target, stress my enemies, and always keep the next few turns in mind (with no turn-around moves, it's easy to get a wookiee lost for a few turns if your not careful). Maybe Jake would work in there, or some other nimble ship, but I'm not certain.

I was in Kariek for my first season last time around. Vassal league is probably the most fun I've ever had playing Xwing. Gotta go schedule another game.

It's worth noting this squad does not seem to be a low tier fluke either. The exact same squad was flown in one of the higher tiers by PaulD who took a 100-0 victory against RAC + Quickdraw.

With your blessing @Incard (or whomever originally designed the squad), I may fly it as well. But I'm not sure I want to risk lowering its win rate.

No blessing needed! Lists belong to everyone who has the cards, and on Vassal, everyone has all the cards.

My division (4A - Bespin) so far displays an interesting meta of Mirandash versus various alpha strike lists. I have won one flying the latter (though with an emphasis on Dash and a rather slim Miranda), won another using Dengar/Bossk, and now lost my first game using rebel alpha versus a more traditional Mirandash, though that game went to time and could have easily gone my way had I not made some really dumb mistakes - instead of one-turning Dash I parked Cracken on a rock (by a hair, even) and never got his harpoons off. As always the players are great and the competition tense. The VASSAL league (and everything/one) associated is the greatest institution of this community.

So you are a allowed to change lists after a game? Thought you have to choose a squad and play with it until the end of the league

No that has never been the case. It's a league, not a tournament. :)

Nope! Before every game you and your opponent enter a list into the leagues list juggler page, which are revealed when both have been entered. This makes the league a lot more variable and more importantly always up to date with the latest spoilers. It also adds a whole new dimension to metagaming. It is so great to be able to get your spur of the moment ideas on to the table immediatly!

Heads up. The sponsors' who wanted to claim Conditions (think achievements) have come through and a bunch of them have been put up already on the website http://xwvassal.info . Just head over the new nav button I added at the top. Expect an official announcement tonight on both the website and the slack channel.

It's basically just another version of the "win a game with the biggest initiative bid" :P

Looking forward to watching triple tact/expertise wookie vs assaj/ventress/Inaldra this evening.
