Not the fist time this has happened.
When the original L5R first released, there was a character named Doji Shizue, the Crane Clan storyteller. Her art depicted an old woman.
Later, Ree Soesbee became the lead writer (the 'Storyteller') for L5R, she identified strongly with Doji Shizue. After that. newer ('experiecned') version of Shizue depeicted her as a young woman. As far as I can tell, the younger version of Shizue is likely what we have in this new version of L5R.
