Separatist Dreadnought! (Coming Soon)

By Battlefleet 01 Studios, in Star Wars: Armada Painting and Modification

I have just made my first shapeways purchase, and got Mel's 10 inch variant of the Providence class Carrier/Destroyer. Pictures will be coming soon, and a buddy of mine is painting it up as Trench's Invincible!

Sounds cool. Mel's designs are top notch.

Look forward to it!

Has anyone else done any of the smaller Providence's of shapeways? If so could you please post some pictures here?

I just finished mine up this past week. I will try to snap some pictures tomorrow and post a link for you.

Ah nice.

Ok, here is a good picture. Ux5NJHc.jpg

I have some more here. The first 3 ships in my CIS fleet, focusing on the Providence-Class Destroyer. All 3 are from Mel's Miniatures on Shapeways. https://imgur.com/gallery/BFJFy

Those look great. I especially like that Munificent.

I liked your color scheme. Simple but elegent.

Great ships! I've always loved Munificents. Good work! ?

The dreadnought has arrived, but I am struggling to upload pictures. Any help would be awesome thanks!

Images generally are too large for the Forum to host. You could upload them to places like imger (I think that's what it's called) or Dropbox, then post the shared link here. There are other places as well, such as Postimage.

Here is the link to imgur for the ship. Let me know if it works please and thank you!

Looks like it worked!

Wow, that thing is huge. Looks great can't wait to see it painted.

(I tried to like your pic but sadly, once again, I am already out of likes for today.) :(

Yay I finally had 1 more to give.

That's okay. My friend and I are starting work on it tomorrow.

Just a bit of advice. The White strong and Flexible is very porous material, to the point that washes act more like stain on rough wood, even with a primed surface. Use with caution.

I look forward to seeing your progress.

Is there a recommended technique for painting WSF?

I've got no technique, but some advice:

-brush varnish your model just after priming (spray varnishing will not do), that will make it smoother, save your brushes and the model will gulp less paint.

-keep your paint very diluted, the water will get into the model very fast.

a friend of mine suggested me to treat it with white vinegar and a tooth brush. WARNING , I did not test that, I don't know if it is safe for the model or if it ruins it!

The vineager trick is part of old habbits from modles that came from molds. I don kow isf mels are from molds or 3d print. But the aforementioned or warm water with dish soap will remove the mold releasing aget that they are covered with and in some cases hinders the application of primer or base coat, with out hurting the modle.

Mel's are 3D printed. I've never tried the vinegar treatment before. I always soak my stuff from Mel's overnight in dish soap and water. That seems to take care of any problems with the model sucking up paint.
