Question about Redirecting Damage

By ventura72, in Warhammer Invasion Rules Questions

This has probably already been answered, but does anyone know if you can't redirect damage if damage is uncancellable? I believe redirect wouldn't be cancelled, since the damage is still being applied, but want to make sure.

redirect or reassign are words that appear to be used for damage that is being assigned. That damage does not disappear, it goes somewhere, just not on the original target, so does not count as being canceled, so this would force one point of Counterstrike damage (or any damage while Bloodthirster is in play, Cloud of Flies damage, or Mob Up is in effect) to be redirected by Warrior Priest for example (of course natively it only has a single hit point so it is still possible that it will die anyway, but you get a chance to spread the love).

Now because this is not a damage cancel, my current understanding of the rules is that you do not have to consider this when it comes to assigning damage to defending units before the Capital.

Is the Priest of Sigmar able to redirect all kinds of damage (once per turn), or just the damage he takes in combat? E.g., there are some Orc cards which, whenever they enter play, deal two damage to every player. If I have two priests of Sigmar in the game, I could, in theory, assign one damage to each one. Can these two points of damage be instantly redirected to the enemy´s card? In this case, by playing such a card, the orc player would deal four damage in total to his units.

Just to clarify, I believe you are referring to Warrior Priests.
That's correct. You can assign indirect damage to Warrior Priests and make them redirect the damage to an opponent's unit. The drawback is that, for that turn, they'll become easy targets for your opponent.

Another way to avoid taking indirect damage is to assign the damage to units with toughness.

Yes, you are right. I referred to Warrior Priests. Sorry, juts mixed up these two units.

And thank you a lot for your fast answer. I agree to that.

Non Combat Damage :

Non Combat Damage is
always applied as soon as it is assigned
before any other actions can be taken.

Counterstrike :

Counterstrike damage is
combat damage that cannot be split
among attackers, is uncancellable, and
is applied as soon as it is assigned,
before any other actions can be taken.

So I think you can't redirect/reassign damage (with Tactics of Forced effect) because to redirect "assigned Damage", you should take an action beetween Assign and Apply and in this case, it's impossible.

Forceds are not Actions, Forceds take place anytime their text takes place. And if there ever comes an Action card that would allow you to redirect future damage from a Unit (maybe until the end of turn), you could play it in response to the original Action that will deal damage (won't work with Forceds of course).

Ok, so

For Non Combats damage et counter-strike :

Warrior Priests OK

Disciple of Khaine KO

Blessing of Valaya KO

Disciple of Khaine : text say Action and Combat Damage...

Warrior Priests : Work against Counter-Attack and Non combat.

Blessing of Valaya : work in response against non combat damage because it prevent the next 2 damage.

Ok ?

But I have other question.

I have a Dwarf with boost 7 power, 2 HP.

1) I play Blessing of Valaya on the Dwarf

2) I attack with this dwarf only.

3) opponent declare one defender with conunter-attack 2.

Should i redirect Counter-attack damage or my dwarf is dead ? I already play my action, so now the card effect work or not ?

Regarding the Orc Card "Mob up" ("Action: Until the end of the turn combat damage cannot be cancelled"): Can I nullify the ability of the priests who redirect damage? According to my understandig of the rules, I cannot, because in this game "cancel damage" and "redirect damage" are two different ways of damage prevention (because redirected damage does not really "disappear", just changes the target). What do you think?

You are correct - redirecting damage is not the same as cancelling it. The Warrior Priests still have their ability if you play Mob Up.

Yeah, I thought so. Thank you very much!
