Reconsidering things

By Shu2jack, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

For the past couple months I've been firmly with the Crab, with a soft spot for the dragon.

Today I received my cores and played two games of 1-core Crab with scorpion splash. Some bad dynasty flips had me relying, with success, on my conflict hand. Kami help me it gooood. I'm seriously considering going scorpion. May my request for seppuku for ny betrayal be accepted!

Has anyone else had different perceptions on what they want to play now that we have our hands on the game?

I'm a bit leery about making decisions based on 1-core. The limitations it places on deckbuilding lead to severe inconsistency.

That being said I've enjoyed Scorpion when I've played them in 3-core. Though I've yet to actually see a Scorpion vs Scorpion game and all the garbage that apparently comes out of that match up.

I don't get my Cores till next week, so at present I am still firmly a Crane.

Scorpion has been my second favorite clan for two decades, so it's nice that they're both fun to pay and effective out of the gate with this game. Dragon are decent, but I really dislike the 'voltron' (pile a ton of attachments on one or maybe two guys) theme.

Oh most definitely. I have just been seduced by the conflict side of the force and the Scorpion do love the conflict side.

Kind of, still waiting for my core set to arrive. But I don't think I will be playing much of Crane because of my dislike of the dueling mechanics

I'll probably end up as a Scorpion player under FF.

I would hold off until you play some 3 core games. The decks feel very very different when you know you can rely on better actions and with real characters instead of a bunch of imperial scum.

It's an LCG so you can easily play them both!! Scorpion are undoubtedly powerful in this set, in both 1 core and 3 core. As cards release I'm certain the other clans will match them. The difference isn't so great even now.

Yeah, play a lot of 3 core games first.

I was a Unicorn player in the ccg for about 20 years (right from when the game launched). But I picked Unicorn based on their game mechanics, which I thought were fun. But the mongolian theme doesn't do anything for me - meh. But Lion have always been a 2nd for me because I love the theme and flavor of the Lion clan. So, with the LCG I tried Unicorn. Just brutally bad right now, also not like the Unicorn from the ccg except for a few movement shenanigans. So the switch to Lion was pretty seamless in my view - been happy with it.

That said, I am also firmly in the camp of not caring for one whit about clan loyalty. I paid a bunch of money for a game and I will not limit myself to only playing 1/7th of it - seems silly IMHO. I like to explore all facets of games that I buy, including this one. I also enjoy playing the best decks against the best competition. So I imagine I will roam about from time to time and enjoy the whole game. Just my take on it.

lol I'm like, the exact opposite. I played the game because Scorpion clan was cool, and no matter what they're mechanics are I'm 100% clan loyal.

I will play any clan for fun tho!

I was a Lion player for the entire time I played, but swarm is a playstyle I absolutley hate, and thier idea of more warm but weak bodies somehow equaling best tacticians bothers me. I will msot likely not play Lion under FFG until another playstyle becomes viable, maybe the reoccuring theme. but I may play Phoenix until they can be corrupted until then, cause Phoenix need to be tainted, they are so much more interesting when they stop whining about peace and unleash the god like power, with some small rotting lung disease on the side

I have been Phoenix since the last millennium. Periodically when AEG introduced some numskull design direction I have been known to retreat temporarily into the mountains with my brethren. After some meditation, tattooing, and kiho fu I come down from the monastery to once again join my family.

Blessings from the Isawa

With no Shadowlands cards in the core set I have no real clan to call my own. As much as I've been farting around with the pONI's for single core testing, I've really come to enjoy them. I'll probably continue with them unless they are not able the handle the honor loss Shadowlands characters are sure to have, once they get released of course.

I've played Crab and Unicorn, mostly, since Jade, with a little Taint splashed in from time to time. Definitely not loyal in the religious sense. But yeah, the LCG model and the new design has got me reconsidering. I too like the latest dragon iteration. Yay Balance.

Its gonna take me some time to play around with the new mechanics. This week is 1 core. Then I'll transition to 3 core. From what I see so far, games are more variable now. So I think patience and repetition will be worthwhile. Which bodes well for re-playability.

I've played events, had success and won many prizes with Scorpion clan. They also resonate with me as a clan on a personal identity kind of level. I would definitely be a Shosuro.

However in the actual environment, I feel like splashing my beloved Scorpion might be preferable to fully running it. Influencing it right into the heart of the Crane. The power behind the throne.

Scorpion or Dragon (or "shhhhh" Spider) or go home!

Before the setting shift crab/scorpion had a pretty nasty dishonor engine going due to their alliance.

Crab with Scorp splash seems to be a pretty popular option, I've noticed. You're in good company. (Even if you ARE in league with those underhanded ne'er-do-wells in crimson!)

I am Scorpion and as a Shosuro I must pose as a member of the other clans on occasion. A warning to Scorpion players: If you are not loyal to Bayushi, I will see you interred in Traitor's Grove.

I'm a crane player and really enjoy playing them but recently while faffing about I made a random unicorn deck and wow it has certainly stuck with me that I might consider them

Can't wait to play a deck full of characters that my stronghold's ability can interact with...!
