Return of the Jedi Luke might indeed get a complete different ability than Greenhorn ANH Luke

Maarek Stele, Sabine, Hera, Zeb all kept abilities in the same faction.

boba fett, Kath scarlet, Sabine, Han, Chewie and Nym all got new abilities in different factions.

so far that pattern looks pretty solid.

It’s also an assumption that X-wing Luke is the ANH rookie especially when Wedge is ps 9 and he did not look like it at Yavin.

I don't even think he'd be particularly OP in an X-Wing. The ship's ability to shed stress is rubbish without R2, which really limits his Imperial-faction ability. On top of that, PtL isn't even particularly great with X-Wing pilots, given the ship only has two actions (without spending anything on mods). Maybe Soontir with Opportunist??

But crossing factions usually does change the ability a bit. IIRC, it's still usually thematically similar, but different. So Soontir who loves stress, as a Rebel pilot, might just be something along the lines of 'stress tokens do not prevent you from taking actions from your action bar' or something like that.

That's certainly true for Nym, but Boba Fett straight up changed his from Meh, to Awesome.

humm but getting an imperial Xwing thats better than the rebel one would be a nice compensation for the Tie they got... :-) Maybe an Xwing with a crew ;-)
