Salon des Perdants - Vassal Autumn Tourney

By CaribbeanNinja, in Star Wars: Armada Organized Play

I find this format as well great and fun (in general).

It is just these extreme one ship lists that i see as a problem. These are either 10-1 or 1-10. Because the whole list IS only this one ship. If its dead, your whole fleet with all squadrons is dead.
Only this little change, at least two ships, would be enough to keep you at least on the board. And to give you at least a little bit of room for deployment. With one ship you have ZERO choice. Your first placement is your fleet.

Couldn't agree more! I feel like I really ended up with 2 of three games that were lost completely at match up, but that doesnt detract from the fact I loved the short casual games, and the format overall.

Next time, I want to play this format with a list of my own designing! That would be enough for me.

@CaribbeanNinja thanks for putting this together!

Actually, my current idea will help a lot. I thought it might be cool if we do the same thing but instead of an actual list, we come up with something like a commander and archetype?

That way the player still gets to input what they want, but are constricted in some manner.

We'll see how it rolls next time.

Woe Betide the poor bastard who draws "Ackbar, Single Ship." as Commander and Archtype.

At first, when i was doing the first list, i thought about only one ISD and squadrons. But i thought it will not be good (not efficient) with only one ship in this format. At least i am happy that i changed it (now that i had to play a one ship list).

Just one part i checked with the list (yes, i am an excel number junkie :P ).

Round 2 was an average of 8.9 points for the winner. 5 matches were 10-1; 3 were 9-2. That's 8 out of 10 matches.
Round 1 was not this bad. with an average of 8.5. But still, 4 matches were 10-1.
This is an impressive high number. The average should be around 8 (higher means extrem results, lower means balanced matches).

Just to compare. The vassal summer had an average of 8.01; 7.44; 8.40 and 7.75 in the 4 rounds. A value of 8.9 is really high.

I really would love to see another tournament of this kind (fun special rules), either by CNinja (he did a good job with it) or someone else. But we have at least to learn from this one.

or Sloane and a no squad archtype :P

No I'm thinking we'd have a pool of presets to choose from that aren't broken.

Even just having all the commanders as pre-reqs might be fun.

These would be randomly distributed.

Just to counter @Tokra I got solitary Doom Pickles for two of my three lists and I found them fun to play and win with (though doom pickle on doom pickle was never going to be glamourous). Then again I seem to have made a reputation for myself with doom pickles, so they are something I fly a lot.

I wouldn’t want a restriction on ship numbers as the points are so low that then makes certain archetypes impossible to field well (particularly doom pickles), the fact that your list scores points dependent on how other people fly it should be enough of an incentive to avoid truely awful lists, as I’ve found out people struggle to fly double interdictors which has really hurt my placing...

Knowing my luck (and given my recent performance) I'd be the one to lose to it. :)

Don't have much to go off of because of how many variables there are. But my list was an ISD with 6 tie fights and it won 2 of its 3 games.

I don't think it was particularly disadvantaged to be a single ship list.

Highlander can work as well. Each card is only once in the pool (generic once for each faction). Half player imperial, half rebel. This means only one of each squadrons as well, no matter if unique or generic. And max as many player as there are commanders.
Drafting is separated for both factions.
One by one can pick one card of the pool. If someone has 400 points (or less, depend on the rules), they have to skip and are out of the drafting. Normal fleet build rules are in effect (max. squadron points for example).
If someone has picked a card they cannot use (because there is no ship for it) the points are wasted but count. So picking all good cards without the ships can end really bad.

The drafting will just take a really long time when you do it via message or on the forum ^_^ .
But this way you will see some cards you NEVER saw so far :lol: .

Chapeau, no one will park in front of an ISD. But a MC80 Assault is the one i had to fly. No front arc, max speed 2 and with one ship the opponent can double tab and park in the front of the MC80. Making it impossible to do anything anymore.
In a normal match you can cover your front with the second ship. But in this case there is no second ship...
And sitting there (from turn 2), not being able to move or do anything against it, was really a bit "boring". There was nothing you can do against it, and nothing to prevent it.

And yes, with an ISD you can at least attack back :) . But the MC80 has 2 red and one blue dice....

But one single ISD has the same problem. If it is destroyed, you lose all squadrons as well.

@CaribbeanNinja Vs Dorrin is set for Tuesday 11/7 around 4:15 pm Central (9:15 pm GMT).

I came midtable in the deal or no deal tournament with a single interdictor.....

@CaribbeanNinja Hey, when is the deadline for the round?

Edit: No longer relevant.

@PartyPotato vs. doppel now.

Result is a 103 to 0 for me.

@PartyPotato had initiative.

We played my mine fields.

Bob the shuttle pilot did all the work towing the mines in front of the enemy like a pro but he missed the last shot of the game that could have killed the remaining AFMKII, so I guess he avoids getting spaced but gets condemned to extra target practice.

Thanks to Partypotato for the great game!

It was a serious fleet then? I thought you were just sabotaging those of us that flew it?

Only 3 matches left!

Dorrin V CNinja (tomorrow)

@Maturin vs @Visovics

@DoubleDown217 vs @GhostofNobodyInParticular

We're trying to schedule our game, but time differences are getting in the way. HOPEFULLY we can schedule something for tomorrow.

And the game between @DoubleDown217 and myself is on now.

GNips v DoubleDown played Salavage Run (which on a 3x3 map is gross) and it ends in a 85-118 for double d. I took my 1 point bid and chose player 1. G had demo and I wasnt too keen on getting double tapped. Bossk and crew quickly killed an out gunned Maarek. Then put the final nail into G's raider. Demo stripped all the shields and took a fair amount of JJ's VSD's hull but it was able to limp to safety. G took all 4 tokens and bumped my gozanti to death.

Great opponent and fun match

'Twas a indeed a fun game!

In case anybody wants it, I have the logfile .

Dorrin vs @CaribbeanNinja goes to me 164-0 MoV for a 9-2

Ninja won the dice roll and picked second We played his Station Assault.

I was able to kill his Motti Interdictor over rounds 3 and 4 with 2 full shots from the Cymoon and a side shot from the Arq. His other Interdictor was able to slip around the side of the ISD and at that point I just focused on the stations, killing both. We called it after the last station dropped.

It definitely has been an interesting format. I certainly lucked out on which lists I was assigned.

Thanks @CaribbeanNinja for running this tournament!
