Home Front mission rule question

By udat, in Imperial Assault Campaign

Hi all,

This is a rules question, but specific to a mission rule in Home Front, so I am putting it here. Hope that's the correct place.

There are spoilers for the mission ahead.

The mission deploys a named Officer, Jann. Instead of activating normally, he receives one action after each "rebel activation". That is clear enough for the heroes, but they also had Echo Base Troopers with them, so a multi-figure group.

The question then becomes, does Jann receive an action after each EBT activates, or one action after the group completes its activation?

The RRG states that during the activation phase "each figure receives one activation" and so from that it seems clear to me that Jann gets an action after each figure in the group activates, but you also "activate" a deployment card, so perhaps that is an activation?

What do you think?

After each rebel group activates. Each hero and ally is a group. When it is rebel turn to activate, they activate one ready group, if possible. When you activate a group, you activate each ready figure in the group in your preferred order.

You can also use

.

So shouldn't the mission should say "after each rebel group activates" in that case? Without the word "figure" or "group", how can you tell? The RRG as written, says each figure receives an activation, so those are separate activations, and Jann gets an action after each rebel activation.

You're right, it should.

Usually activation refers to figure activation unless otherwise specified. However, here the mission rule seems to refer to the alternating Rebel/Imperial activations, which are group activations.

(Compare to missions where a figure gets a one-action-activation after each hero activation.)

We did, we compared it to the mission where Vader behaves similarly, and that one specifically says "hero activation". Because this mission simply stated "rebel activation" and because of exactly what you said, "usually activation refers to figure activation" I ruled that Jann got an action after each EBT. I'm really on the fence about it though. I can totally see both sides.

I don't think it mattered to our mission so much, because the EBTs were nuked not long after that, and the Rebels won anyway :D

You'll get an official answer to your question in anywhere from a day to a couple weeks (or longer if it's just after a release, or something difficult to answer).

I'll put the question up for consideration through my channels as well. I can't say how long the answer will take though.

I got a reply from Todd essentially repeating what I said that the intent clearly seems to be "after each rebel group activation".

The IA team tries to catch these better in the future. Unfortunately there isn't a separate term for the group and figure activations.

Thanks :)
