FFG: Where my Imperial love at?

By rafcpl6868, in X-Wing

I'll be in my bunk...

I'm lucky to be at an FLGS that frowns upon flying the meta. The majority of us are full-on Imps, or use very unusual Scum/Rebel builds like an amazing Fenn Rau-Cartel Marauder (x2), Jakku Gunrunner (x2).

Compare that to both Rebel and Scum, and it's considerably different. There are swathes of ships that are sacrificed to the meta scrapheap; some immediately, others as waves progress.

Now are these ships not played cause they are so bad? Or is it cause the OP ships are played instead?

The latter.

As above, the latter. Some genuinely good ships have been all but scrapped as they either get eaten alive by the meta warping ones in question, or they're simply not as efficient at murdering said meta warping ships. Fenn Rau is a great example of a really bloody good ship and pilot that has been all but relegated to obscurity by two-ship turret-bombers.

You've lost that imperial love.

Woah oh imperial love.

You've lost that imperial love.

Now it's gone, gone, gone.

Woah oh oh oh.

BAYBAY BAYBAY, I'D GET DOWN ON MY KNEEEEEES FOR YOU
IF YOU WOULD ONLY LOVE ME, LIKE YOU USED TO DOOOOOO.
WE HAD A LOVE, A LOVE, A LOVE YOU DON'T FIND EVERY DAY.
SO DON'T, DON'T, DON'T, DON'T LET IT, LET IT SLAM AWAY...

*ahem*

So put them on the **** table. Be the change you want to see in the game.

I flew triple Defenders to a 3-1 record last week in store tournament featuring a lot of meta lists, and I am by no means a good X-Wing player or Defender pilot. I can count on one extended middle finger the amount of times x7 didn't trigger across all four games. If I can get results with them, anyone can - they just choose not to.

This.

Defenders are still really, really good.

Nope, what I already said. Imperial players can keep wringing their hands about was could be or play what already is.

The Tie Silencer with Kylo will have the ability to kill Miranda under its shields, can use adva sen to never be in anyone's arc/never close to bombs/ can hoard close to 50 points and is PS 11.

In short its going to be over powered and destroy the current meta, flys better then the pre-nerf Whisper and with an ability that can ether make you not shot or ps0, can fly with RAC/Vader or a palp shuttle along with a stupid good title. Or you just take 5 bombers with unguilded rockets or harp missiles dropping something like 20 damage with splash damage not to even say the gunboat which will be able to slam/reload and never run out of missiles.

Yup the Imps are dead.

If you would like to mail me your collection I wont say no :-p

Miranda has enough hull that I honestly don't see kylo being that big of a problem, especially when she can just kill him with bombs. It only takes a few well placed ones to end that 40-50pt ship. It doesn't have evade, so just shooting at it normally is plenty to crush this thing if you can get arc on it. Spoiler: you can.

We all know that alpha strike straight up doesn't win consistently. I mean, yeah it can be effective against certain ships, namely the large ones, but in all seriousness, harpoon missiles splash isn't that much better than the other missies out there right now, so why hasn't alpha strike broke the meta yet?

Lastly 5 unguided rockets bombers is the same thing as 5 strikers but worse offensively, worse in dials and actions, and slightly better in health.

Hi there, I'm from the church of Scimitar Sqdn and the Latter Day Gamma Vets. Have you heard the good news about TIE Bombers?

Hello, I'm from the reformed church of the one true bomber god. The tie punisher.

I asked my girlfriend (who hates Star Wars) what the Silencer looks like to her and she said: "A phone with a plane on it." So there.

It's a Kamino Sabre Dart...

Personally I've no axe to grind against this game. I've accepted X Wing is dead in my local wargames club due to power creep, obscure S and V ships dominating things, an increase in complexity, an FAQ almost as long as the rules etc, etc. I could go on but you've heard it from me in great depth before, there's no need to repeat it. X Wing is a thing of the past that my friends no longer want to play. That said, as a now disinterested observer I can't help but think that FFG seem to have broken their own game. The level of dissatisfaction seems to be so great now that I'm wondering if the advent of Legion the miniatures game next year will see a defection en masse to it and the rapid decline of X Wing's player base.

I won't be buying it personally, I'm happy with Armada and when it comes to miniatures it's historical all the way for me but I'm thinking a lot of people might be looking to sell their X Wing stuff to get into Legion.

Ha! Fat chance! No one wants to get rid of our GUNBOATS, ever!

This hit a little close to home.;)

Okay, the saltiness is real here. But quite some time ago, I heard that Imperials are the maneuverable faction. I think this is still true. Really, IMO, the Protectorate, the T-70, and the A-Wing boast the maneuverability of even the TIE/fo, and most of these have dials only a bit better than the TIE Fighter. Maneuverability is becoming less helpful because turrets are so very present, but we've had all the leveling field we're going to get with that in Autothrusters, so buck up and get to your double-repositioner!

What I'll agree with is that bombs are hard to deal with, but that's why people need to embrace again the maneuverability and evasion of Imperial Aces. I've flown Vader, token stacked, right in the face of 5 dice attacks and come out fine. Yeah, TLT sucks. But we've gotten around it before.

Furthermore, the TIE bomber is the cheapest bomb carrier, use it! Fly the Chubby Swarm!

Since I'm relatively new - I started about a year ago - I know I don't know all the Imperial goodness. But 5 TIE Strikers? I'm thinking that it might be the best swarm against Rebel bombers after 4 TLT Aggressors. Figure out your new stuff. I want that Rebel scum dead!

I know what I'll be flying in a couple of months time, and it's all Imperial.

This hurts my brain.

Much confusing.

Will ponder.

I'm testing the waters of the game again against my boss, and I'm a bit startled how great the Tallon roll is on the T-70. Only way I've been able to beat him in my games so far is with a TIE/D holding Lone Wolf!

I want to know what paired cannon upgrades on a platform cheaper (and more maneuverable?) than the Lambda can do. If you can get a few of these to slow-roll and then nail targets as soon as they come into range with a lot of modified dice, that at least could be something to the empire's favor.

Assuming FFG prices the Gunboat correctly, they'll be the answer.

I think people are seriously underestimating Long Range Sensors combined with a Heavy Laser Cannon. It gives Dash Rendar levels of dice modification for much cheaper (although much less maneuverable, and the HLC comes as 8 points since you have to equip the title.)
