The single best ship to kill Nym

By Celestial Lizards, in X-Wing

But wait, Why is Nym getting all the hate, surely Biggs needs a nerf, right?:P

But yeah VT-49 tends to be my Nym killer I used Commander Kenkirk in the Dodgemator. As long as I stay out of what ever range the turret weapon he has it works. The only ship to outlast Kenkirk.

These things are not mutually exclusive.

I keep meaning to have a try at this. Lone Wolf/Isard/Kallus Kenkirk looks ridiculously tough - I'm just not sure what to use with him because it feels like it needs to be something kamikaze-esque that I can trade for the non-kallus-ed piece(s) as quickly as possible.

No reason you should get eaten alive by the Scouts. Kylo can keep RAC alive long enough to reliably trade for one and a half Scouts, possibly two with a bit of luck, and the wingman can take it from there.

Hard but doable. During ideal approach you got one Scout bumped, second blinded and being shot only by one. If you manage to repeat this scenario twice rounds in a row you probably win. But it's definitely not an easy task.

Mine is Captain Oicunn:

Oicunn: Daredevil (optional), Emperor Palpatine, Mara Jade, Ion Projector, Dauntless

Use the Emperor to guarantee that ion, and Nym's going nowhere. And if you need to get an extra damage if your wingmates have already ionized Nym, you can use Daredevil instead and use Palp to take to damage.

What is your best anti-Nym ship?

Errr... you DO realize that Ion Projector works when he bumps you, not the other way around? And that he usually has advanced sensors, so he can barrel roll or boost to avoid that bump? I mean, don't get me wrong, if you do manage to force the bump, he's pretty much screwed. But if he's good, he will always dial a maneuver that will allow him to finish his move in the clear no matter where you move Oicunn.

As for killing Nym - both Dash and KyloRAC do the job well enough. Dash can keep dancing far away from bomblets and throwing 4 dice salvoes at Nym. RAC on the other hand is tough enough to ignore bomblets to an extent, get Nym down to PS0 and then rush in and kill him at close range.

Actually the ideal approach would be to use RAC as a bait and take advantage of his superior speed (thanks to boost) to keep running out of range for several rounds while the wingman gradually wears down one of the u-boats. You only try using Kylo and bumping once running away is no longer an option. If you're lucky, the u-boat player might even get annoyed enough to turn against the wingman instead, allowing RAC to approach the u-boat formation when it's not in a good position to respond with torpedo strikes.

I've never seen an AS build at the weekly tournaments, so can't take that into account.

But a Bomblet Nym build is pretty predictable, so I usually am able to line it up well.

That ion projector is still doing its job though. If Nym bumps he's ioned; if Nym uses AS to avoid the bump, Oicunn gets to shoot Nym, and pump a bunch of damage in.

The most annoying thing about AS Nym is how he can choose who he bumps into, and not take that damage. It's the only reason he's so survivable with only AGI 1. Ion projector is at least punishing him for making that decision.

5 TIE strikers.

I've played against him in varying configurations, and each time save the very first (before I figured out he was the priority 'first kill') he's gone down like a sack of potatoes to 15 attack dice at medium range in one-to-two turns.

I'd imagine 5 Kihraxz, Unguided Rocket TIE Bombers, Mangler Cannon Scyks, or any other heavy swarmer would make a similar mess of him.

And people keep telling me that my swarm kills against Nymm are just based on complete incompetence of the Nym player. :D
The fun part about Nymm is that he is an arc dodger who will suffer from any arc he can't dodge. He doesn't evade damage all the time, he takes it to the face and can be withered down quite easily.

Miranda

Heragator.
Start of combat boost into range 2/3, murder him in 3 turns.

I use Stress-Braylenn

Well that depends. If it's scum Nym you're facing, that might indeed be the case. A competent rebel Nym will just bait Oicunn into following him while he runs, dropping bomblets on the way. He won't be concerned with bumping Oicunn because he won't be going in Oicunn's direction in the first place.
