Hunting Nym - Stress+Ion+TLT builds

By GreenDragoon, in X-Wing Squad Lists

TL;DR: Is this idea worth any consideration? Has someone tried something similar so far, and how did it work?

Alright, how much of a ridiculous idea are these squads?
The sole purpose is to take low-agility, high HP small ships apart. Always using a mix of stress, ion and TLT. So Miranda, Nym, Auzituck, Y-Wings, Ion pulse allows the same against large ships, so YT-1300, YV-666, Decimator.

Which one would you try? How would you change them? Any other ideas for TLT+stress+ion?

1a) Empire1

Obviously DoubleEdge and Vessery need to get behind. Vessery will stress the target, DoubleEdge will ionize it. OL provides the TL and maybe some endgame smack. Also, the puny two dice against 0 agility (Juke!) can do quite well.
I expect 4-5+ damage per turn: 1 from OL, 1 and 1+ from Vessery, 1 or 2 from DoubleEdgy (depends on the weapon) on a Nym.

1b) Empire2

A more obvious build, at least for the defenders. Only works against small ships, but I expect more damage for a similar outcome. Much harder to fly two Defenders though. At least Kestal can use his focus defensively, and if he doesn't need to then he can spend it for his ability.

2) Rebels

Miranda is the obvious choice because the K-Wing has both turret and missiles. She's also the best pilot in the game, so that is that. Ion turrets suck though, so I need her with ion missiles. Two Y-Wings next to her to get more TLT offense.
I expect 5-6 damage per turn as long as the stresshog can keep arc and 5 if Miranda shoots ions. Gray instead of Gold because of Jumpmasters? Or rather Gold because of Bumpmasters?

3) Scum

Inaldra takes care of the ionization. She is a good first target for the opponent, and I expect her to melt quickly. But if she's behind an ionized Nym, then she can easily regen - both flying 1 straight is no problem.
Kavil takes care of the damage, and unhinged opens up his dial.
Asajj is the stress source. She should be able to stay within range 1-2 of an ionized ship. Latts is mainly for other ships or used if necessary.

So how would you build a Stress+Ion+TLT list?

Edited by GreenDragoon

I like the way you are thinking! I am most comfortable with Scum, so this is my take - trying to get as many nasty ships on the table as possible.

Cartel Spacer — M3-A Interceptor 14
"Mangler" Cannon 4
"Heavy Scyk" Interceptor (Cannon) 2
Ship Total: 20

Cartel Spacer — M3-A Interceptor 14
Flechette Cannon 2
"Heavy Scyk" Interceptor (Cannon) 2
Ship Total: 18

Cartel Spacer — M3-A Interceptor 14
Heavy Laser Cannon 7
"Heavy Scyk" Interceptor (Cannon) 2
Ship Total: 23

Palob Godalhi — HWK-290 20
Trick Shot 0
Ion Cannon Turret 5
Intelligence Agent 1
Ship Total: 26

Binayre Pirate — Z-95 Headhunter 12
XX-23 S-Thread Tracers 1
Guidance Chips 0
Ship Total: 13

Target priority should be difficult for your opponent, as every ship has something unpleasant to say. Probably the Flechette Scyk and the Z will be last on their list, as everything else is either more annoying or more damgerous, but that should leave them free to do their dirty work unhindered.

And one more version:

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)
Accuracy Corrector (3)
Ion Cannon (3)
Tactician (2)
B-Wing/E2 (1)

Gold Squadron Pilot (18)

Plasma Torpedoes (3)
Guidance Chips (0)

Bandit Squadron Pilot (12)
Ion Pulse Missiles (3)
Guidance Chips (0)

This packs 28HP, and unlike the other examples it has actual redundancy for stress and Ion. Sure, the B-Wing is an obvious first target for a TLT of Nym or Miranda. But that takes too many rounds.
Meanwhile the B-Wing can just say "ionized" due to the accuracy corrector, and often stress, too. Once that stress is on it won't get away. But anyway, R3-A2 will make sure to pile on more stress.
The Gold with Plasma makes sure to take those shields away from Nym or Miranda. You should get 3 hits, so remove 3 shields. The B-Wing will remove the 4th and TLT can start reducing the hull. One more turn and it should be over.
The Bandit is not really necessary. One idea is to have him shoot the ion first to make the approach easier. A second idea is to keep him away until the time is right (tm).

An Ion-Bwing could be an alternative for the previous rebel list, too, along these lines:

Miranda Doni (29)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
Ion Pulse Missiles (3)
Sabine Wren (2)
Bomblet Generator (3)
Guidance Chips (0)

Gold Squadron Pilot (18)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
R3-A2 (2)

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)
Accuracy Corrector (3)
Ion Cannon (3)
Tactician (2)
B-Wing/E2 (1)

Total: 100

This squad has 'only' 25HP (but with regen) and an endgame-ready Miranda. The B-Wing could skip the accuracy corrector for another bomb or extra munitions on Miranda.

I know this is missing the TLT, but i went with PS0.
