Actually, Artoo recovers his shield before rolling for damage when his ship overlaps an obstacle (refer to his entry in the FAQ). If you were at max shields already, then he will do nothing and you will be down a shield after rolling the [hit] from the rock.

What if it was green move into range of opponent's Snap Shot? Do you get the shield back before facing the attack or after?

Depends on initiative, both things have the same trigger.
