Should Big ships get +1 Defense die for Range 3?

By eagletsi111, in X-Wing

I know the rules state they do, but I'm wondering if they didn't what would happen. Would it really unbalance big ships that much?

Thoughts?

That's not really the problem. The problem is that there are large ships with agility greater than 1.

I get that, but that's why I'm thinking no benefit for range 1, if your large. Even those ships with greater than 1 agility suffer some, it instantly boosts small ships, like ties and others if they are flown keeping the enemy at range 3.

With everyone using secondary weapons, no one gets range 3 bonsuses anymore

Personally I think removing the defense range bonus for large ships is a terrible idea. Case in point: brobots.

Why shouldn't they get the range bonus?

If it's just because "they are big and therefore likely to be unmaneuverable" then that is already taken care of by their lower agility scores. If it's just because "they are big" then maybe it's there because any critical systems are actually harder to get to and damage due to that added size when compared to a smaller ship that wears all of its critical systems in easy to get at locations.

Leave the Primary Weapon range bonuses alone. They are always additive which is a great thing. Big ships already have a lot of **** going against them like 1/2 mod and that bases 4 times as big as the small base. Sure boost makes the really fast but those big bases can get them hung up on rocks pretty easy. Big ships are pretty balanced right now. It’s the ‘medium’ ships that are the problem. Small based ships with greater than 8 hp with turrets and bombs and average to better mobility (and SLAM) step on Y- and B-wings as well as just being really annoying to play against.

End of rant.

To add another problem, it's also when customised freighters are more agile/speedy than built for purpose Military Interceptors.

I have thought that they shouldn't be faster than 3 maybe, with exceptions like the Falcon. Maybe the title makes the YT 1300 go speed 4? Maybe I am just going too far.

Generally speaking the large ships DO NOT have the agility that most smaller ships have. As for their speed they have larger engines which could propel them to greater speeds.

If you look at boats in the ocean you may have some fast small ships but some of those bigger ships can move fast as well. Move away from a smooth sea and the big ships can be less affected by it than the small boats.

Going in a straight line, I agree, but turning? Big ships arent as mobile.

Not really, with larger bases it is easier to get them in arc. Quit looking at just the card and look at the whole game before you make your judgement on what ship should do what.

Implying arc matters

What’s an arc? Oh look at whole game, like tractor beams, ions, 1 turns, giant barrel rolls, PWT and crew etc... because when I look at the whole game, large ships get better and better.
