Scum epic play advice

By Feanor79, in X-Wing Squad Lists

We are playing a team epic play game this weekend and my team is playing scum. We have never played epic before, so we are not sure how well this is going to turn out. Basic guidelines: 400 pnts, 3 epic points, Guns for Hire content available. We are flying against Imperial and believe that our opponents will take Raider, tie swarm, punisher with bombs, and a few aces. Any advice at all on build and general approach would be greatly appreciated.

Our approach is to have a small force of ace killers (Dengar and Fenn), a group for taking on the raider (either contract scouts with proton torps or z95 with homing missiles and deadman switch), Nym to use minefield mapper to lay out clusters at the start and control the board, and kihraxz fighters with harpoon missiles to take out the tie swarms:

C-Roc (60 points) - Jabba, Heavy Laser Turret, Engineer Team, Backup Shield generator, Tibanna Gas Supplies, Supercharged Power Cells, Insatiable Worrt

Dengar (52 points) - VI, K4, unhinged, Glitterstim, Title *ace killer

Fenn Rau (32 points) - VI, AT, title *ace killer

Captain Nym (52 points) - preditor, TLT, cluster mines, cluster mines, minefield mapper, R4-E1, Engine Upgrade, Havoc *board control

Black Sun Aces Kihraxz fighter (27 total) x 4 - attanni mind link, harpoon missiles, glitterstim, GC, title *swarm killer

Contract scout (34 points) x 2 - attanni mind link, EM, Proton Torps, Glitterstim, GC. *Raider killer

My personnal advice:

- Remove Jabba from the C-Roc, put him on a YV-666 if you go the illicit route (more on that later).

- Consider having Dengar and Zuckuss on the C-Roc (reroll your dice and your opponent and no need to worry about stress or taking target locks). Not sure what you're trying to do with the tibana gas, but consider the optimized generators instead (you'll never have problems shooting this way).

- You don't need ace killers; arc dodging is not that much of a thing in epic (nevermind team epic).

- Either go full attani mind-link or illicit, but not both. glitterstim on an attani-mindlinked ship is just not going to work.

- Full attani mindlink implies a lot of Kihraxz with mindlink (M3A works too)

- Full illicit would intead be those PS2 Kihraxz and PS 1 Z-95s with hit shot blasters (a lot of them).

- Bring lots of generics instead of aces. Aces will fall to focus fire. I have seen Dash fall in one round of focus fire to a Raider + escort. It's not a pretty sight.

- You'll have to tell me how Nym worked out. I have my doubts about putting a minefield between you and a ship that can fire at range 4-5; you may be giving your opponent an advantage.

Don't discount the second half of his ability! Getting a free evade against those shots can keep you alive a little longer

True, I recently used this ability in a tournament. I had a Y-Wing dodge a 3 hit concussion missile for 0 damage (1 dice from agility, 1 dice from asteroid obstruction, 1 free evade from a mine). The look on my opponent's face was worth it.

My mind just has a hard time picturing a mine layout in epic that would work just as well while allowing the scum ships to fire back effectively. Maybe a bunch of TLT weilding Y-Wings skirting the edge of a minefield?

I have not played with or agianst scum epic yet. However:

-with them brining aces, you already have advantage if you bring numbers. Aces disappear within 2 rounds of dice.

-don’t try to have too many counter-groups. 1) Have a protection for your epics. 2) leave their epics alone, go after the ships. Epics go away quickly with focus fire.

Good luck!
