Which Rebel expansion for Imperial player?

By MattyG47, in Star Wars: Armada

I am an Imperial player but I am often jealous of some of the upgrade cards found in Rebel expansions. I dont play often and wont get much use out of having 2 fleets, so I dont want to buy all the other expansions.

If you, as an Imperial player, had to buy one Rebel expansion for the upgrade cards what would it be?

MC-30c

Assault Proton Torpedoes

Turbo Laser reroute circuits

Ordnance Experts (Raider has one but you can get another.)

Yeah, really, that's the #1.

If you don't care so much about Ordnance Experts (or expect to buy more Raiders anyway), at least you can pick up Assault Proton Torpedoes and Turbolaser Reroute Circuits as Tournament Alt-Arts at the moment... So they're not too hard to source.

... They're certainly not Flight Commander and Flight Controllers level of annoyance for Rebel Players... >.>

There's a reason Vassal fleets are the only place you ever see more than one of these at a time.

Also, SFO for everyone .

For a while I was legitimately using two.

Because, y'know, "Nose Punch."

... But, bills require and all....

Depends on your perferred playstyle. If you enjoy brawling at close range with raiders, Glads, and possible future Kuat refit ISD then MC-30 is worth picking up. Even though TRC is a great card, Imps overall do not mesh well with the upgrade having to leverage listbuiding or situation to have safe use of it.

Meanwhile if you enjoy Long and mid-range Gunship blast from Victory or ISD then consider the Nebulon-B for the XI7 which can put an enemies redirect token in unfortunate position.

Which, thankfully, one can get separate due to Tournament distribution.... as frustrating as that is.

Flight Commander and Flight Controllers are a high level of annoyance even for Imperial Players. Those are two upgrades that would be very welcome as OP promos.

At least you get a ship you can at least try for your money ?

Yeah mc30 and neb b right now add the most punch. Peltas for flechette torps is all well and good but only situationally useful and only on Raiders. External racks from the hammer heads is a decent alternative to APTs but really only for Raiders.

Neb B for the XI7s

I agree that the MC30c expansion is a must as it has at least two excellent upgrades (Assault Proton Torpedoes and Turbolaser Reroute Circuit)

But also if you want more diversity, the Liberty has many upgrades that only come on that expansion (Skilled First Officer, Chart Officer, Veteran Gunners, Fire-Control Team, Medical Team, High-Capacity Ion Turbinnes, Spinal Armament and Quad Turbolaser Cannons) and some are useful. Also it has Engine Techs if you want an extra appart from the ones you get from the Gladiator, in case you want to put them on your Interdictor or Arquitens too.

I suppose. While I have a budget I do not have one tight enough to only have to play one faction. But it is tight enough to only get one of an expansion I don't care to run a second of when I only want one upgrade out of it.

That's just it. As an imp, you'll probably use one interdictor, not two. So one is okay.

A rebel player wanting the seemingly ubiquitous and desired FC/FCT Yavaris or MC80 or Pelta, still has to buy an Interdictor. Which I would complain less about if it were the price of a NebulonB.

I would say that probably is to strong a word, change that to maybe use one Interdictor. At least as far as I am concerned the most useless ship (not saying cards are useless, just the ship cost more then it is useful for) in the entire game is the Interdictor.

I challenge all negative assertions of the Interdictor.

Mostly because my only Tournament Success came with using 2 of them Simultaniously...

I will bow to you on this, I have never seen one hit the table, every Empire player has one (and only one), and most rebel players also have one, I would go so far as to say that it is the rarest ship of any in the area. And it still has not hit the table even once. At least here the basic thought on it is that it would be fine if it did not cost (points not $$) so much, but for its cost you can get so much better, now it sounds like you figured out something different that made it work.

I have 3 :P I love the Interdictor it's one of my top 3 ships ISD, Interdictor, and Raider. They are expensive to field and hard to get large wins with but d*** it they're fun to play and suitable for a wide number of roles in most fleets. Their tankiness is unquestionable, their support role is outstanding, and their offensive capabilities are almost always underestimated. If it had some more experimental retrofit upgrades and titles I think you'd see a lot more of them in tournaments.

Please don't take any of my comments as thinking or saying you don't have a legitimate gripe. We are certainly due for a few of these only-in-one-expansion upgrades to show up as promos or in opposite faction expansions.
