The idea is: the comm relays bank evades for Swarm leader on Omega Ace, who then uses a system officer TL and focus auction to turn a possible 4-5 critical hits in one go. If the shot isn't there then Omega Leader pulls the TL to make his life easier. Zeta Leader gets re-rolls with wired and can evade every turn to feed Swarm leader. The bomber drops kylo on key tgts for Omega Ace to burn. Fighting Omega Leader early gives Omega Ace the ability to drop 4-5 crits a round. Fighting Omega Ace early leaves the bomber to feed Omega Leader and Zeta Leader. The bomber hangs back and feeds the fight with TLs or kylo as needed.

I think the synergy and dials work well together, however I wanted to put it up for public debate.

Planning on flying this at a store tourny next month and will follow up with how it performs.

Give it a lot of practice before the tourney.

As someone who has tried to fly Omega Ace Swarm Leader, it is fragile. Like, you are still fielding four TIEs at the end of the day, and your green dice will only carry you so far. While the four-five Crit shot is the dream, you'll likely splash those on shields anyways, since the other ships lack the punch to strip shields before OA fires. And realistically, you get one shot of this. Then you have two to three turns of recharge and reload and re-enter formation. And by then the enemy list has taken out one or two of your toys and you are looking rough.

Or, at least, that was my experience. I didn't have the Kylo button to draw hate and dent shots, and didn't have as much action effeciency. Still, I'd be worried about getting much damage to stick with these guys. There just isn't much, you feel?

I've toyed with a very similar list, I believe using all the same pocket aces you have. A very interesting adaptation for your TIE Shuttle is to bump the Gamma up to Tomax Bren, put on Fleet Officer and Systems officer, and give him Cool Hand for a frightening amount of action efficiency on the Bomber chassis. So green, hand out TL, take Fleet Officer action, Cool Hand in reaction to stress for an Evade! (or a Focus, but really, his offense won't matter much)

Here's my version:

  • Tomax Bren (24) [30]
    • TIE Shuttle (0)
    • TIE mk. II (1)
    • Systems Officer (2)
    • Fleet Officer (3)
  • Omega Leader (21) [26]
    • Comm Relay (3)
    • Juke (2)
  • Zeta Leader (20) [21] --- Epsilon Ace (17) [20] --- Zeta Ace (18) [21] --- "Countdown" (20)
    • Wired (1) --- Comm Relay (3) --- Comm Relay (3) --- Adaptive Ailerons (0)
  • Omega Ace (20) [23]
    • Swarm Leader (3)

Now I understand the desire to put Comm Relay on Zeta Leader so that you can throw that extra Evade for another die on Swarm Leader, but I had to push down the cost to fit in the Tomax Shuttle. I think if I wanted to maintain another Comm Relay, I'd throw in Epsilon Leader to simply keep stress off of the Omegas if you can find where to ditch a point, otherwise go with the other two I'm showing. Epsilon Ace can be surprisingly obnoxious and Zeta Leader does great at staying out of arcs in the late game and will survive well on maneuvering if your opponent doesn't bring turrets... Unlikely as that may be. Countdown fits neatly as well, if you are creative enough to figure out how to keep him in formation with the /fo's.

I like the Bren idea. It fits with replacing Zeta L with Eps ace + Comm Relay. I really think swarm leader needs the comm relays to make sure there's always an evade for Def and the extra die. On the other hand with bren picking up evades I don't quite need it and can use something else with an evade button to push when needed. Maybe a naked countdown or scarif defender + LWF. I was really banking on 4-5 crits + Kylo pulling enough target priority to work 1 or 2 times then have omega and Zeta to work late game.

I think Tomax would be important enough that your opponent would want to bring him down anyway. Bombers are often my first lost ship and I don't think that this would ever be an exception. If they didn't bring this one down first, it'd be one of the Omegas, likely Omega Ace.

I've been flying something similar to the Bren list, but I'm using two Tie Advanced with title and Accuracy Correctors, and have thrown a Hull Upgrade on Omega Ace.

I've only really flown it once, it was fun and I can see the potential power. A fun thing with this kind of swarm is that you don't really need to fly in formation, as Swarm Leader triggers as long as ships have the same target in arc/range. I like to take evade as an action with Omega Ace and then load up with Focus and Target lock from System/Fleet Officer, triggering Cool Hand for an Evade. That gives both ships decent defense.

Reading this thread has got me wanting to get Kylo in there though, would be fun.

So I flew it at casual night in prep for the tournament and it did not go well. Zeta ace and Omega Leader did all the damage. Omega ace was never able to pull off swarm leader or his ability. This was mostly due to me completely forgetting about comm relay, i didn't eve use juke on omega leader.

First game was against loaded ps 10 nym, a unkar plutt (spelling?) quadjumper with ketsu, and zuckus with snap and other acoutremnents I can't remember.

I got kylo to proc with omega leader taking nym to ps0. Omega ace got killed in the second round of shooting with a bomb and tractors from the quad. The bomber pulled all the hear after omega ace went down but I still got kylo off in round 3 then the bomber died. Zeta leader and Omega Leader killed the quadjumper throwing lots of native crits. Then zuckus and nym cleaned up. Ended up getting nym to 1 hp left and never scratched zuckus.

Second game was against expertise backdraft and rac. This one went worse. Got kylo to go off on an OL hit in round 2. After that I think I took one shield off backdraft as the list got picked apart
