Actually, it's hands TALL. They still measure horses that way, I think.

Yep. Measured to the withers. 1 hand = 4 inches.

also, why is there no exploding Alderaan mat?

That's what we've been playing on since X-wing released. You know -- black starfield, bunch of asteroids?

He said -ing. That's -ed.

Man, I wish Murica would go to the metric system. It’s so mush easier and makes so much more sense. It’s clearly superior in every way but that’s what happens when people fear change.

Yes we are, and so what if you can smell my underwear through my jeans. (JK on both accounts.)

I guess that's why we haven't landed on the moon lately.

Best comeback of the month!!

The Imperial System of measurements...

Created by the Romans, an empire lost. Kept by the British, who developed and lost an Empire. Adopted by the Americans, who are the empire, about to be lost. Soon to be be adopted by the Chinese...

The difference between the 3ft and 90cm mats is theoretically just shy of 15mm.

15 mm doesn't sound like a big deal since mm are like practically microscopic and stuff, but .59" is a lot!

Cubits or no balls.

Y'all don't get it, in the US we don't measure base 10, we measure base Bacon.

One mm is approximately 0.040". Thats no where near microscopic. As you pointed out, 0.59" is a significant difference.

On a completely unrelated topic, if you go to YouTube and search for roundest object, you get a brief history of the kilogram and see what's replacing the platinum-iridium rods now used as the kilogram standard. I found it interesting.

And with cojones that big, you'll want to weigh them in stones.

I'm just going to leave that here...

Correct answer to the question of size is that the mats should be exactly 3 range rulers in length (3x30=90cm).

The pyramid thing is wrong though.

There are 12 months, 31 days and a few billion years Before Luke.

Hmmm... interesting. I recently bought a mat and it’s a little bit too big for all the 3-foot wide tables at our FLGS. I guess a weird metric mat accidentally got shipped to ‘Murica.

But what should I measure in rods, then?

A 90cm mat would be too smaller than the 3ft table. You must have gotten your measurements wrong when you build the table, probably because you used complicated imperial units instead of the much more straightforward metric units.

But bigger numbers are better, right?

Also, split that across the limits and it's an extra 7.5mm to each edge, which is still technically a lot, but that entirely hinges on how close to 36" in a game entirely measured in metric the mats are actually cut. Allow a margin of error, and it's probably closer to 2mm to edge.
