Valen Rudor vs Torani Kulda

By Celestial Lizards, in X-Wing

Torani Kulda: If you are defending inside the bullseye arc, you can't spend tokens and you suffer a damage or lose all your tokens.

Valen Rudor: After defending, perform a free action.

So either after Torani shoots at Valen and he steals your tokens, you can get a TL and evade or a focus

OR

Before Torani's ability takes effect, you use the free action to barrel roll or boost out of the arc, and the ability doesn't happen.

Could this make Valen effective again because we know every scum player will probably fly Torani and Nym after the Kimogila releases.

Torani "After you perform an attack, each enemy ship inside your bullseye firing arc at Range 1-3 must choose to suffer 1 damage or remove all of its focus and evade tokens."

Valen: " After defending, you may perform a free action. "

Quoting the actual wording helps ;)

So a few situations are possible, and the outcome depends on initiative.

Torani shoots at Valen, with Valen in the bullseye arc. Valen has init. Valen can use his action to BR or Boost out of the bullseye arc, then Torani's ability doesn't fire. He could also take a focus or target-lock-with-free-evade action, and then either lose the token or take a damage.

Torani shoots at Valen, without Valen in the bullseye arc. Valen has init. If he's feeling stupid, Valen can boost or roll INTO the Bullseye arc and Torani's ability will fire. or he can take token actions and keep the tokens, because he's not in the arc.

Torani shoots at Valen, with Valen in the bullseye arc. Torani has init. His ability takes effect, then Valen can take an action without penatly.

Torani shoots at Valen, without Valen in the bullseye arc. Torani has init. His ability cannot take effect, because Valen's not there for it to take effect on. Then Valen can take whatever action he wants without penalty, including boosting or rolling into the bullseye.

If Torani shoots at someone else and Valen's in the bullseye, Valen's affected by his ability no matter what; Valen's not being attacked, so HIS ability doesn't trigger at all.

This is so mean. Poor Valen. He always gets the short end of the stick.

ever since ‘after an attack’ and ‘after defending’ became the same thing it’s just been down to initiative. So Rudor needs an initiative bid anytime he shows up in a list.

There's such a difference between Valen here, and Valen in Armada. Here, he's kind of a "so near and yet so far" pilot. In Armada, he's **** near an auto include, and he earns every bit of his big s**t-eating grin on the pilot card.

I keep wanting more and more to take up Armada. With the endless SWG Scummies and Wookiee boats I may switch over to Armada after I complete my 12! GUNBOAT SQUAD. I wish Armada also had the holy GUNBOATS.

Give it time. Armada is only on it's second squadron pack and already has Decimators, Phantoms, and Defenders. Turret ships don't really matter because squadrons in Armada all shoot 360, so we likely won't see an Aggressor, which brings Armada Gunboats even closer.

Also, in Armada, every squadron is represented by three ships, so your 12 Gunboats can be eclipsed by 25! And they get to shoot capital ships! And literally hyperspace in for support through one of the objective cards!

The true question is : Valen Rudor is really played ? :P

Same with ryhmer to, really. Even post nerf he's still potent.

Who? My Inquisitors TIE expansion only had the Inquisitor as a pilot. There was nothing else flyable in the pack.

He's still great, but you usually have to build your squadron with him in mind to get the most out of him. Meanwhile, even if you only have enough for two squadrons, Ciena Ree and Valen is the ultimate value pairing.

I should break out Rhymer again... especially with a pair of Quasars in my collection...

But Sienar Pilot can be efficient but only on epic game ;)

Baron of empire should be at 18 pts not 19 pts !

I had such high hopes for Sienars... hopes so high, I bought five at launch. Four of which have never been used.

I bought 2 in the hope that Barons with Juke would work.

I got two, and a while back I borrowed two more to fly four sienars (prockets, title and chips) alongside a support bomber (Fleet Officer and TIE MKII). It's actually really fun to fly, not too janky, and now you can replace a couple (or more) prockets with cruise missiles to be dangerous at long range as well.

I have this list who worked before the dark time : Omega Leader (Juke/Comm Relay) ; 2 x Baron (ptl/title/autothrusters) ; 2 x Academy Pilot

I do play him from time to time in a janky squad with Juking cluster missiles. He's fun.
