That would mean the event was to be played during Coercion's resolution, and the opponent could then take their turn as normal.

Regardless, they could have used less permissive language and thus ensured that there was no choice but to play the chosen Event as your next action.

The language they use allows for the option to be made and that does seem deliberate.

I agree that that is the intent, otherwise they could just have added something along the lines of "and is not allowed to pass" at the end of the cardtext.

Coercion is hilarious if your opponent has "The Price of Failure" in his hand and his characters are healthy/he only has 1 left and he hasnt discarded it yet...
