Ok everyone, I was inspired by @ForceMajeur's moisture vaporator challenge a couple weeks back. I want to keep the tradition going to get everyones creativity flowing. So for the month of October, the community terrain challenge is...
POWER
What does power mean to you in the Star Wars universe? A generator used to power a personal deflector shield? Or one big enough to shield an entire planet? Maybe a power supply that keeps the lights on in your in your Tattooine homestead, or simply the GONK droid sitting outside? Perhaps you want to harness the power of the dark side...
The rules: create at least 1 terrain piece for a total budget of $10 or less keeping the theme of POWER as your central idea.
The prize: a new piece of terrain for your Legion map, handcrafted by you!
Post your in-progress or finished photos here and see what the community is up to. Happy crafting!
October Community Terrain Challenge
Hey! I like it.
By the time Q1 comes around we'll have 1... 2... 3... 4--at least four pieces of terrain ready to go when Legion shows up in our shops and homes. I think I'm going to invest in some plasticard and some better glues over the weekend.
By the by, if anyone needs any inspiration, check out my Reference Pic thread with pictures from the artists & creators that helped make the Clone Wars and Rebels happen.
I have three ideas already involving the hardware store and the pharmacy. Stay tuned to this post.
First idea: Electrical boxes

This costs me $2.09 plus tape so far.

Second idea: Prescription vials.

Ask your local pharmacist to sell you some (show them a picture of what you are doing). $0.25 per 10/13 dram, $1 per bigger one is fair price ~20% markup over pharmacy price.
Look at the lips of the vial, because the Walgreens ones probably wouldn't work.

The hardware store and the pharmacy? Sounds like an interesting weekend lol

I finally have an idea for my October project. Supplies: 1 sheet of insulation foam (i'll have tons extra) $5.99, and one caster wheel $2.99. This is going to take some time....

I love a good Mystery...

@Schwimmy is that one of those electrical outlet housings? Such a cool idea.
Progress tonight. I doubled my efforts, so to speak. The idea is to have a permanent Anti-Aircraft gun that is a key focus on board (A). It has 360 turret abilities. A computer console (not yet started) will live nearby to be a movable piece that can act as an objective marker for game purposes.

Yep, only $2.09
Time for a field trip to the hardware store. I now know what I want to use the battery operated LED lights I picked up at Dollar Tree for.
They were originally intended for the maintenance area of my Death Star build but this will be a much better fit.
That's a great looking AA gun so far. Can't wait to see how you'll color it.
I've did a little more work on Bob, and we are not sure about the color stripe. The spouse wanted it to be blue and yellow but I don't know...

I made a control panel on the side with the stand that I am happy with by freehanding permanent marker. I try to avoid painting if I can.

I really like your vision for a power generator.
I am adding some of my Death Star images that anyone and everyone can save to your PC. Open them through Microsoft Paint or a similar program and you can scale them to size, and print using label sheets. If you use regular paper you can use a Glue Stick or Modge Podge to apply it to your piece. If you use the glue method put a layer of either PVA glue or Modge Podge over the paper after it has completely dried to seal it.
I originally made these for custom 3D builds for Imperial Assault but they will work for Legion.

The red and black consoles along with the grid screens were actually made to be printed on Testors Decal paper and placed on clear acrylic.

Well I have been holding off on building my Generator yet as today begins the BETA for EA's STAR WARS BattleFront 2. I am going to play as much as I can honestly to get some inspiration.
Even though I was unimpressed with the originality of The Force Awakens I am leaning towards a StarKiller Base build as a secondary. I do like the idea of technology and rock face all in one building but this would not be able to be a modular build.
I don't know what it is but I really like the idea of interior skirmishes. Maybe because they would seem very objective heavy as well as Close-Quarter-Combat as opposed to duck for cover combat. (Those are my favorite game modes on SWBF: Cargo, Droid Run and Drop Zone.)

Very cool turret but I thought we were going for a Power Generator or is this a Power Generator disguised as a massive turret to ward off invaders!
Inconceivable! (add the lisp if you want the whole Princess Bride vibe) and don't forget the most important thing: "Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!"

I honestly have gotten sidetracked by working with my resin water effects. But the AA Turret will have a generator that attaches to it and also a control console. Both of those will be floating pieces to place nearby the mounted AA Turret. They can be mission objective markers. Hopefully should get some more work done this week.

Air Superiority power.

I wanted to make the terrain base either "keyhole" or "Y" shaped and illustrated what that meant for my English as a fourth language spouse. It does look pretty suggestive though, lol.
Through mind is in the gutter Just like is Armada game on Sat
Love the electrical boxes!
Here is my effort at a Power Supply in the Star Wars universe at a cost of absolutely nothing.
Everything is unpainted and unfinished to show the process.
The parts used are Soft Drink and Slushie lids from a Racetrack gas station just asked if I could have them and they said "sure".
Drinking Straws from the gas station and an empty produce container. Believe it or not my fiance asked me if I could use it for anything before she threw it away. She understands the value of terrain from trash.
I cut the soft drink lids in half and doubled them up. I trimmed the slushie lid in half and then halved both halves. I trimmed the produce container down the middle and attached it to make a thinner structure.

I placed the larger parts of the slushie lid on both sides of the produce container and then placed a lid on each end.
I then placed the smaller part of the slushie lid on both sides and placed the last two lids on both ends.
I created make shift railing out of the drinking straws by trimming them and tucking on end into the other straw.

Here is a picture with some miniatures to show scale.
I decided to throw in a can which i covered both ends with a piece of cardboard to give it a flat finished look and added the straw railing to give it a pipework look.

I intend to place the generator on top of an empty cardboard box and to turn the box into an Imperial building using decals created for my Death Star build.

Once again I created a Power Station for Legion and my total cost was $0.00.
More work finally getting done (6 months later lol).

Hodge Podge coating.

Taking out the tubes. Then I found it it will be easily crushed if I don't leave them in, so I glue them back in.

Apparently there are holes so I just wipe them down.
On to the rings, I score the wire.

Then hot gluing on the magnets.

I'll probably cover all the rings in hotglue before I layer on any color, but that's all I can do before I have to feed baby.
