#71 could it be DJ's?

By Jadotch, in X-Wing

So Wave 13 hit without a Scum ships as of yet. We are still missing #71 in the order of SKU.

Which bring's us Benicio Del Toro's character "DJ". Not much is known about him other than him being scoundrel-like and a war profiteer. (Lando like character?) We do know he does have a ship, with brief descriptions of the interior. This is what I have gathered from various articles.

"The cockpit has a very nice singular red seat for him to pilot from. In the back of the ship, it has a communal section like the Falcon where a crew could sit and socialize. But instead of dingy white seats and a chess board it has a very nice bright curved blue booth with a table (no word on a chess board) and it looks more like a nice hotel than something Han Solo would live in."

"The inside of the ship at Pinewood was a mixture of Amidala’s Nubian ship from The Phantom Menace mixed with the look and feel of the Abram’s Trek and a few hints of the sleek “Apple” design aesthetic we saw revitalize the look of the classic Stormtrooper into the First Order Stormtrooper we have today. If the Falcon is a Winnebago this ship is a luxury yacht made by Bill Gates.”

The exterior of the ship has not been publicly revealed, but it does sound small enough to fit into X-Wing. Granted Scum does not need another medium base, but hey, if it is canon I am all for it. (I enjoy the fluff.) If there is a set built for it, it will likely be playing a role of some sort. I am also looking for a ship to make me want to play Scum ... I hope this is it.

Good thinking. That might be it. Though why they are being secretive about it is a little weird. What are they hiding?

I am thinking the mouse has an embargo on it? Which I find weird, but they are pretty secretive about any extra info regarding the ships in Star Wars.

Considering the movie is several months out I imagine they are still trying to keep some things close to the chest to keep up the hype train of reveals.

We got a lot of stuff revealed on Force Friday

I suppose. It still feels a little weird to keep the ship a secret unless there is some sort of in story reveal they wanna keep under wraps.

Eh, I'm probably overthinking it.

Calling it now, DJ is Rey's father!

From rumors, he was a "friend of Leia that betrayed her in the past", so L+D=R?

The mouse wants to keep some content in reserve for release in the last month or two leading up to the movie, so they have new stuff to show everyone to keep the hype alive. The last thing the mouse wants is to give away all the new cool stuff in August/September and risk the excitement dying down by December.

Fair.

we all know it will be announced the week Rebels premiers and it will be the "sabine" expansion featuring Sabines X-Wing, Sabines A-Wing, and Sabines Tie Defender.

And her U-Wing! Which actually would make it pretty maneuverable, Barrel Roll and do a 180.

NOOOOO I NEED POE IN AN A-WING!!!

L+D-S=R.

Or, left, right, left, right.

Don't forget she also stole a TIE Bomber

and Wedge.

The Super A-Wing expansion!

Wedge

Poe

Sabine

All three could be very deadly in those ships actually... Wedge with Juke/PTL, Intensity/PTL Poe, Intensity/Juke Sabine. Jebus... I just pee'd a little.

Yeah. but I don't think she flew it. Wedge was the pilot.

You think the TIE Defender is the weapon she helped create that she was all upset about in season 3? I think there's a good chance.

Considering her expertise, I would think it would be some type of new bomb or other explosive. I don't recall her showing much interest/slash knowledge about ship design (though she did work on the B-Wings weapon systems, but that could be a cultural thing). I also got the impression that her invention was already used before Rebels. Adding on to that the Defenders being Thrawn's pet project, I doubt Sabine had a hand in making the Defender. Though not impossible, with the right explaination.

Dang it! You make too much sense.

With a username like yours, I'll take your word for it. ^_^

People's enjoyment of being surprised?

There is definitely that, but to my way of thinking, the last of the surprises of this nature should be one of the juiciest, the most surprising.

Case in point, when wondering if the Force Friday product was going to be an X-Wing product, I wondered if it was going to be a surprise reveal as part of an announcement that an important character was going to be returning in TLJ, Boba Fett in a new ship was a pet theory of mine. Now, there were less surprising options it could have been (and kids turned out to be), but there was still this expectation of some big reveal based on the secrecy around the product.

And that's basically how I view the missing SKU, if it is to be the Scum addition of Wave 13. If they are keeping it secret, I'm expecting something juicy about DJ and/or his ship. Now, that doesn't mean there has to be and I'm willing to admit there probably isn't going to be anything aside from "new character, new Ship". But there is still that expectation for the mystery to give us something really surprising.

TL;DR I'm overhyping the mystery, heh.
