So the base set comes with multiple x-wing squadron miniatures but only one x-wing card (not counting luke). So my question is, do i need multiple x-wing cards to field multiple x-wing squadrons?

You only need 1 card for each type of squadron utilised.

Ginkapo is absolutely correct, but I thought I'd expand on the answer a bit.

The cards for squadrons really don't get 'used', they are only a reference. All the tracking information is done on the squadron base. The activation indicator and HP is tracked on each squadron base, so the only thing the card is for is a reference for how many dice you throw (or a reminder for what the special ability marks on the squadrons are and do).
