This is cool, though I think the "Pocket Star Destroyer" idea is exactly what the Raider is supposed to be. An Anti-fighter platform that can rapidly respond to small threats with high force at a decent cost.
Introducing the Preemptive Strike - a "Pocket" Star Destroyer

I suppose mine would be a step up in force response over rapid response. I'm just rationalizing my attempts to shoe-horn a Star Destroyer into X-Wing.
16 hours ago, Bullox said:“Pocket Star Destroyer” is an informal, loose classification of frigates, carriers and destroyers that emulate Imperial Star Destroyers in form but are smaller and less powerful than Star Destroyers. These ships can perform several tasks such as patrolling shipping lanes, carrier support for larger fleets or directly engaging Rebel or pirate forces. Promising Imperial officers are often assigned command of one of these ships as training before being given the awesome responsibilities of commanding a Star Destroyer.
The Preemptive Strike is an Anti-Starfighter Destroyer. Heavily armed and armored, it is designed to engage enemy Starfighters at close range as well as all but the largest capital ships in battle.
Seems like a lot of fanfiction to write to give an explanation for why you're using an out-of-scale Star Destroyer model.
The thing you're describing is basically what the Raider is.

Not inappropriate for custom HotAC game-play though. Besides, it just makes me happy!

Also, I didn't invent the concept of pocket Star Destroyers. If you Google "Pocket Star Destroyer" you find Wookieepedia entries for the Turbulent class and Nebula class ships apparently seen in EU stories.
Out-of-universe, the term is probably a shout-out to "pocket battleships" like the Admiral Graf Spee.
The Nebula, despite being comparable to the Victory and Venator in size - has immensely powerful shielding (in the Saga Edition Starships of the Galaxy rules) and is characterised as being able to take on Super Star Destroyers.

Holy sheet! I just Googled "pocket star destroyer" to read up on the Nebula and this thread popped up as the #3 hit!

Bullox has posted a fun, non-complaint-based, creative thread (which everyone complains never exists), and you two gotta come in here and break wind.

Fun? What, you think this is all a game? This is serious business! Git yer ‘fly casual’ Bull outta here and GIT GUD!!

GUNBOAT!
That's it!! I have had it!!
Since I bought the weanie 1/4000 model not realizing there was a bigger one, I had to buy the 1/2700 beast. It's in the mail. From weanie to meanie, that's what I want.
When I get her, and she's fully functional, I'll christen her the
ISD Git Gud!
That'll teach the Rebellion a thing or two. . .
(Blastboat!)

So, when the Imperial Navy needs to move this ship into spacedock, does it need to use pocket pull-boats?
Until The Essential Guide to Warfare clarified that the Dark Empire Super Star Destroyers were Allegiance-class - they were usually called Imperial-class Super Star Destroyers. So back then, you had ships of differing sizes, but similar (leaving aside the hangar bays) shapes, and similar names.
So - maybe this could be the counterpart, only small rather than large. Call them "Imperial-class heavy corvettes/frigates/light cruisers" (whichever size you think fits best.
Why not include Obsidian pilot ?
I forgot to post the Preemptive Strike title upgrade
I ran a little (3 1/2 hours) play test of this thing. Here's a quick pictorial summary. [I didn't have 15 T-65 x-wings so I had to use some T-70s as stand-ins for some of the Rookie Pilots and I didn't have 12 Tie/line fighters so I used a few Tie/fo's.]
1. Luke, Wedge, Tarn and 12 rookies armed with proton torpedoes and chimps ready to engage.
2. First round of fire; Wedge wiped out but 4 rookie pilots take out 11 of 16 shields on the Fore section with proton torpedoes.
3. Next round, Preemptive Strike recovers shields but another round of proton torpedoes from 6 x-wings take the Fore section’s shields down to zero. Anti-fighter point defense batteries take a shield from multiple rookies and Luke is taken down to hull.
4. Preemptive Strike recovers half of her Fore section shields but holds some energy in reserve for weapons fire. CAG officer launches a swarm of 8 Tie fighters to engage the x-wings at close range. Preemptive Strike’s big guns have no targets this round and the point defense batteries whiff. X-wings (including the last 2 with proton torpedoes) take mid-section down to 1 hull but 4 rookies are burned down by the tie swarm.
5,6. Next couple of rounds see a big scramble behind the Preemptive Strike. The rest of the tie fighters are deployed and a lot of x-wings fall, eventually leaving Tarn alone.
7. Game over; Tarn gets destroyed in a hail of fire by what’s left of the tie swarm.
Notes;
Recover action made a crucial difference especially with shield technician allowing you to use only the amount of energy needed to recover a desired number of shields instead of all-or-nothing.
Things would have probably gone a lot differently if I had used a better strategy for the Rebels. I had them hit the Fore section with two separate waves of proton torpedoes allowing the Preemptive Strike to recover shields in between waves. I should have had them hit it with all of the proton torpedoes in one round especially if they targeted the mid-section instead of the fore section.

Did these guys go to the Roman Legionnaire Flight Academy??
All I hear in my head is Wedge screaming "Hold the line!! Hold the line!!!"
I would think a better option would be for all ships to attack one flank. The SD can only bring half her guns to bear, and maybe the x-wings could eventually swarm around the back.
Still, looks great on the table. I got mine in the mail last week and just bought some paint today. The ISD Git Gud cometh.

This was totally overwhelming for one person to run. I kept everything as uniform and symetrical as possible and still made a bunch of mistakes. I'm looking forward to using it in a 'real' mission. But, yeah, it sure looked cool.
I look forward to seeing what you do with your Star Destroyer.

LOL. And the Imperial Commander says "Gunnery officer, please silence that Rebel scum for me."
After a week of flogging Wookiees at the KDY ship yards, the ISD Git Gud/dexter is ready to crush the Rebellion:
Her larger sister ship, the ISD Git Gud/sinister is in the works:
(Just to show the difference between the sizes of the Snap-Tite and glue verisons.)

Its fortunate for the Empire that the Alliance Requisitions officer was unable to procure any Ion torpedoes for this mission. Two volleys of those would have severely crippled the 'Strike.'

Set of decals. Hence the dexter/sinister thing.

I had to look that up. I just learned something new about Heraldry. Cool.
How does this compare to the rider's size in small ship scale (1/270)? Just from looking at it, I have a feeling this might actually be about as big as a Raider would be if FFG hadn't made it in a smaller "sliding scale".

Pretty darned close. The 150m raider at 1:270 scale would be 21.7 inches (55cm) and this model ( Revell/Zevezda) is 23.5 inches 60cm. The smaller Revell Snaptite is 15.75 inches (40cm) which would be a little too small for a raider at 1:270 scale.
