If the game's current packaging method is going to limit innovation, that's a bad thing.
Well, I flew Interceptors and Punishers right out of the box. You probably won't win tournaments doing so, but they're still fun to fly.

For one thing, I'm not sure I'm convinced that adding 4-banks would be super innovative, but moreover, I just pointed out that they'd have to include templates with every ship that used them. Maybe that could be considered a limiting factor, but I think it's just a fact of the current distribution model.
I agree that many ships are flyable right out of the box. Case in point, the funboat will come with Adv. Slam, Cruise Missiles, Jamming Beam, and the title. Therefore, when I buy four of them, I will automatically have the most powerful list ever.

I don't disagree with anything you're saying. But you probably couldn't pack a new 4-bend in a blister pack.
OTOH, like my joke above, something like an Ion Cloud will probably never exist officially because of packaging issues.
Fun fact: the TIE Silencer, although bigger than all the OT TIEs, is in fact a First Order Mouse Droid.
The “Snoke’s TIE Fighter” expansion pack will be in a huge ship box.

I always wondered why they had not done that yet.. I play STAW as well and a few of the ships do have speed 4 banks and straight maneuvers.

There’s a case for both of those ships being ‘medium’ and packed in a $20 blister, but they weren’t. FFG is just continuing the tradition except this time it’s on a small base. Why is that a big deal? You should be complaining more about the U-wing, it will never fly in a tourney and sits right next to the Quadjumpah on the self, not even in the tackle box.
I heard that Kylo couldn't fit in a $20 pack because he's so ripped. I heard he has an eight-pack.
Though I guess the shipping description says that he only comes with a six-pack.

There will be an optional nose extension for the ship so everyone will know which one Kylo's flying.

Because the ship itself doesn't fit in the standard small ship box. That's all.
The game does not need more clutter to bring to the table.
Also the silencer is likely 80mm long the striker is only 60 and model the silencer is like two strikers joined by the hull but larger.
Because It's the only way kylos tie fighter is going to sell after the gunboat drops. AT, primed thrusters, etc.
infact if you happen to have two tie strikers put them on opposite ends of a single peg and you will see how wide the silencer is, then add 20 mm to the overall length.
