You'd have thought that a four bank template would be a part of the contents photo if it were to be included. It'd raise the hype. If it turns out to be true though, it'd become a valid move for Juno Eclipse, wouldn't it? (Which could be GREEN!)

The reason for the box size is that of "perceived value". Bigger boxes satisfy bigger prices. Nothing else, I'd wager. The "perceived value" of the packaging is probably my biggest gripe with FFG. It's irresponsible.

Yeah this has been rumoured already.

I think it also has to do with the ship's length. It looks physically incapable of fitting in a blister. And their next largest package is the full box.

Pretty much. I think they aren't designing custom packaging for each ship anymore to minimize the insanity of the B&M stores.

Introducing new templates wouldn't be too bad if this is the only ship that would use them, but if they start wanting other ships to be able to 4-bank, they'd have to print and include the templates every single time.

Where are our Reddit Insiders... is this real? I think I can't wrap my brain around what it would look like (besides the obvious) - can someone mock up a three and four bank next to each other in Vassal?

It would have been shown in the preview picture somewhere. Like many have said, it's to justify the 30$ price.

A. I don't think "future releases" should be a rate limiting step for adding things to the game.

B. People could just need to buy the ship for the template. A very easy way to give people something to complain about.

C. FFG could offer the template as a prize/gimmick at some point to increase access.

D. You could buy a 3rd party template if you didn't want the ship.

E. You could borrow one.

Is there precedence for this? Are there other ships that require components (just to fly them; not necessarily to win with them) that are only found in other boxes?

I don't mind having components that are unique to a specific ship, but a new template sounds like the kind of thing that inevitably creep to other ships, too.

Technically, no.

But who flies Squints w/o AT, or will fly the Kihirax without Vaskai, or Punishers without better ordnance than what is in the box?

If the game's current packaging method is going to limit innovation, that's a bad thing.
