I've flown this a few times and really like it. The Snap-Shot Veterans are actually pretty fun and put out reliable damage. They also got ignored as Dengar became the primary target, so they were able to work more effectively.

But I don't like flying this Dengar. I feel like because I only got 50 points to play with and I feel I am neutering him. Is there a better way to spend 50 points in the scum world? Or even 46 so I may add AT to the Veterans?

I really like your Dengar, but if you wanted to try something different, you could try Expertise, 4-LOM, Punishing One. You'd still have some great action economy and shenanigans. No need to focus, and you can modify your opponent's dice. Seems like a pretty good deal. There is very little red on the Jumpmaster dial, so as long as you are slooping left, Expertise should trigger. This leaves you free to barrel roll or target lock when you need to--or even grab a focus if you need some defense.

46 point Dengar is almost nude. Thats only one point after the title. Keep Dengar thick, allow him to do what he must. I second @BanthaFather , that's a nasty stream of laser death for any list that can't stick some stress onto Dengar.

I don't think its terribly viable, but heres a possible 46 point Dengar. By way of not just being a naysayer...

Dengar (46)
JumpMaster 5000 (33), Expertise (4), Proton Torpedoes (4), Extra Munitions (2), K4 Security Droid (3), Guidance Chips (0)

what about a kitted out Ketsyu?

This works if you only give AT to one Vet, and then give him a Scavenger Crane as well. Can get you a third or fourth shot with those torps.

Or, leave it as is and put AT on your other ships.

I don't hate the idea of dropping the title for Torpedoes on Dengar. His 2-dice revenge shot isn't a huge deterrent, but it's still a free attack. If I'm dropping the title, however, I don't know that you'll need both Expertise and K4 Security Droid. Having only one free dice mod might be enough on a 2-dice primary with your normal action. Taking Expertise with something like Boba Fett instead of K4 can be really cool, but it seems stronger in a Dengar/Tel or Dengar/Nym list where you might be attacking a target with shields down already, but maybe not a perfect fit with this squad. Alternately, VI/K4/Unhinged would still be strong. Going either way (VI/K4/Unhinged or Expertise/Boba) would allow you to also add Scavenger Crane. That could be useful for reloading Torpedo shots, which is more useful without a 3-dice primary weapon. I'm also considering 2x copies of Plasma Torpedoes instead of Proton/EM, since you could flip the first shot face up if the target dies.

Another cheap Dengar is Title, Rage, Inspiring Recruit, and Unhinged Astromech. You'll be worse off when it comes time to Segnor's Loop, so you'll have to be a bit more creative with your Green 1-hards to the Left, but the build comes in at 48 points. However, you'll still have full rerolls on both regular and revenge attacks, and a focus token.

The 52 remaining would give you 2x CDV with Snap Shots & Autothrusters but no Title, or 2x CDV with Fearlessness, Title, Autothrusters.

I personally like the title on Dengar, I also like your initial configuration. Therefore I would propose another version including the title :

Punishing One, Unhinged Astromech, Zuckuss and Wired. Comes at 48 points. I know that it's not completely consistent, but assuming you attack first, you can stress yourself to get the free reroll for your second attack and defense. You also get some "bonus" for your red maneuvers. Unhinged helps to remove the stress generated by Zuckuss or the red moves.

Without the title, maybe something like this:

Push the limit and engine upgrade for the moves, k4 and unhinged for the free target locks, which you can spend on your proton torpedoes with extra ammunition and guidance chips. Comes at 50 points.

Regarding the "other" 50 points... I personally like to fly the Firespray-31.

You could run a boba or Kath with fearlessness and engine upgrade to make it close and personal, add a tailgunner for those pesky ships at your back. Or you add a Dengar crew for the free rerolls. Beware that the points efficiency of the Firespray-31 is worse that that of the jmp5k...

Regardless of the ship: I would also think about inertial dampeners and intelligence agent

Have fun

This is pretty much my immediate thought process when I have just barely not enough points for a full-throated murderDengar. Was trying to stick with the core of your initial list. I sing the praises of Ketsu Onyo with the title, always. It'd cascade into changes to the whole list for me, something like this:

99 Points

Concord Dawn Veteran (26) x 2
Protectorate Starfighter (22), Fearlessness (1), Concord Dawn Protector (1), Autothrusters (2)

Ketsu Onyo (47)
Lancer-class Pursuit Craft (38), Fearlessness (1), Dengar (3), Shadow Caster (3), Gyroscopic Targeting (2)

If only to take advantage of the potential doubletap Tractor Beam with your hungry PS3 Fang Fighters. Alternately, put A Score to Settle on Ketsu and upgrade the Gyros to an Engine Upgrade, to try and convince your opponent to take suboptimal shots at Ketsu rather than obliterating those flimsy Protectorates. Also: Crits are nice.

Agh! How have I forgotten my sweet gentle baby, Rage/Inspiring Recruit Dengar? I'm always pro- Rage Dengar, thanks for reminding me of this sick love affair.

Thanks for all the ideas. It's getting the juices flowing. I really like the snap/Protectorates because it is unexpected and even though my opponents know about the snap before we start, they often forget because it is so unusual to have nameless Protectorates, not to mention snap shot protectorates on the board.

I like the idea of Dengar because of the double tap and his general action efficiency, but I feel it's cheating as Jumps are so good. But hey..can't beat them, join them! I don't mind the idea of dropping the title, would for sure need the torps to make up for it.

The Shadowcaster with the tractor beams is very enticing as well. Another build I've seen used is a dual glitterstim Sabine. Would help to tank a lot of damage.

what I need/want is something that is a big enough threat to draw attention away from the protectorates. Thus it also needs to be tanky and soak up damage. While the enemy is busy chasing the big target, the fighters flank and tear them apart.

is another idea I have.

Expertise on Dengar is soo good. lets him keep a focus for defense and throws out consistent damage all game.

@Wiredin why scavenger crane? What can you bring back with it?

Bringing back Countermeasures with Scavenger Crane is pretty nice.
