Choose effect

By player1631906, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

I just saw a new card from echoes of the past mythos pack Led Astray: Choose one - Put one of your clues on a cultist enemy or 1 doom on the current agenda

My question is can you choose the first option even if you dont have any clues? I remember wondering about this in the Undimensioned & Unseen scenario where if i remeber correctly, the squid token from the chaos bag gave you the option of either healing a brood or removing one clue from it.

Nope. Whenever you're offered a choice, you have to take one that has the potential to change the game state. If you have no clues to move, then that option cannot change anything, so you must take the second option.

Going to bring this one up again.

Situation: I have no clues and the agenda says "do not add doom in the mythos phase".

Does this just fizzle with no effect?

There are ways to draw mythos cards out of the mythos phase, but in the mythos phase itself it looks like option number 2 is not possible.

The agenda is only referring to the mandatory addition of doom at the beginning of the mythos phase. I believe this has been stated by the designer, but I don't have that reference handy.

So it is still possible to add doom to the agenda with other cards, like Led Astray, even if it is drawn in the mythos phase.

Here you go:

Quote

The text “Do not add doom to this agenda during the Mythos phase” only refers to the doom that would normally be added to the current agenda as part of the framework of the Mythos phase. Other effects that place doom on the current agenda, such as treachery cards or player cards, can still do so while this agenda is active.

But note if this happens "at the end of the Mythos Phase" or as part of the resolution a drawn encounter card, this will not advance the agenda unless specifically said so. On my recent play-through of Echoes, this resulted in a 1-2 combo placing 5 doom without advancement.

On my playthrough we had at least once where there was more than enough doom to advance the agenda but it didn't happen because we were able to clear off the doom before hitting the Mythos phase where you check to see if it will advance.

In the interest of avoiding confusion for the OP, note that both Led Astray and The Cult's Search specify they may advance the agenda when adding doom, so they cannot "overload" doom in this way when adding doom to the agenda. They will each advance the agenda immediately.

Led Astray won't advance the Agenda if you choose the option to move Clues to Cultists. Those will flip to Doom, but not advance the Agenda.

That's why I said, "when adding doom to the agenda."
