It's always a pleasure to watch a master of his craft at work, I have nothing but respect for Paul.

Ah, back when we struggled to cope with the Falcon and have a list that could fend off swarms. A more noble and civilised era!

I dug up the falcon build to see how it gets on lately but R2 can’t keep up with bombs

And even with the Falcon as famous as a competitive ship, he ran a singular list...cheers to him!

That was THE best game I've watched. Period.

I encourage you all to play some sort of OT themed tourney. Tie swarms vs falcons vs X Wing aces vs squint swarms and so much fun.

I'm gunna look up that video to watch, sounds like a good watch.

Finally watched the 2013 final yesterday. Amazing game and it was Beautiful to see X wings and B wings face off against a TIE swarm. I missed the golden age of the game, it seems!

I'd argue the 2013 finals were more exciting. This one was more or less decided by the 4-straight.

2013 was better. 2014 was over long before it was over.

I love OT tourneys, it's the only time I get to pull the bomber swarm out (that being said I spent half a tourney season running bombers with LWF and unguided a while back to some success)

the matches are always cool to watch and it draws newcomers to the tables with cinematic battles and a simpler rule set (not too many odd combos)

I went back and looked at a lot of 2013-era lists for the OT tournament at the my FLGS had a few months back. Most upgrades from outside the relevant expansions or their Aces packs were banned too (IA, GChips, and Extra Munitions were allowed), so that really changed around list building. Without Autothrusters, I don't think anyone flew Soontir or any A-Wings.

I based my list on one of the 2013 top-4 finishers. I started from Johnathan G's list of: Luke, Draw Their Fire, R2-D2, Shield Upgrade and 3x Rookie Pilot. I dropped Shield Upgrade down to Integrated Astromech and used the 4-points to upgrade two of the Rookie Pilots to Blue Squadron B-Wings, and gave the remaining Rookie R3-A2 and IA. I finished 2nd.

Another bit of inspiration from that era is adapting some of the old Rebel Convoy lists into Scum. 2x Gold Squadron with Ion Cannon Turrets and 2x Outer Rim Smuggler could become 2x Syndicate Thug with ICT, 2x Contracted Scout with Adaptability, Intel Agent, and Burnout Slam.

I agree on both accounts! 2013 went down to the wire and was a sensational match.

In 2014 I remember thinking the exact same thing when Paul landed the 4 - The game is over but it will now just take awhile.. After that - I accepted my fate and enjoyed the spectacle.

Good times and an unexpected honour to play in a worlds final
