Dude, you are totally doing French Toast wrong.

To be fair, it's hard to get French toast right. When it's done right, it's sublime, but it's much harder to get even passable French toast than it is to get passable pancakes or waffles.

I have never done French toast. It has always been done to me.

I'm so sorry.

French Freedom toast is better than both. Crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside. It's heavenly. Waffles and pancakes just can't compete.

The key is the right bread and increasing your yolk:white ratio.

An awesome podcast!

Also dallas that card has mine, Paul’s, Travis, chris, and josh(i think?) signature.

And Of course Waday

Yeah, and Duncan, Tyler Tippet, Sean, and pretty much everyone else that I thought you knew there, haha. The "Sorry" in the corner was Wade's

The main question is: are they talking about Brussels waffles or Liègois waffles ... ?

Big difference !

US Breakfast meta is way behind the UK breakfast meta.

Waffles? Oversized drop scones masquerading as pancakes? What you need is sausage, bacon, black pudding, tomato, mushrooms, fried egg and the US’s real contribution to breakfast, the hash brown.

Biscuits (USA terminology) is another major breakfast contribution from the States. Jam, molasses, or gravy on top. A well made biscuit is awesome.

That sounds like heart attack on a plate. Just keep it simple: eggs and toast.

Guys...wait a minute...

...are we about to start posting breakfast pics again?

Dee likes Brothers Karamazov? I think I still use the last line of "Notes from Underground" in sigs in other forums. I knew there was a reason why Dee's my fav mynock.

Anyhow: here my ratings:

* Hashbrowns can be great, but they're in another class of foods entirely.

* For pre-made items: Waffles > [French Toast sticks] > Pancakes. Frozen pre-made pancakes are so gross. Pre-made french toast is inconceivable. We can all respect the Eggo, however.

* When I'm out at a standard diner and I don't have experience of particular dishes, I'm ranking Pancakes > Waffles > French Toast. French toast can go so wrong, and bog-standard "belgian" style waffles are OK but unimpressive, so Pancakes. Crepes only if the place is really fancy (gunk filled ones just aren't worth it).

* The "best" I've had out, however, are Waffles. Orange-pecan waffles at A1 Diner in Gardner, or Liege Waffles at Ellie's in Yellow Springs. I just think the waffle ceiling is higher than the pancake ceiling.

* What I make at home is clearly French Toast, my Father's recipe. Nothing will be beat that for me. Milk, eggs, a bit of nutmeg, some cinnamon-sugar. Dip "slightly nice" white bread. Whole wheat gets a bit too gooey, and something like a nice sourdough doesn't soak in enough egg. Fry in too much butter. Doesn't need more than a tiny drop of syrup. And if there's left-over batter? Family tradition is to mix in saltines and fry that up.
