Starter Packs Newbie Question

By SgtDurandal, in Star Wars: Destiny

I've been intrigued by SW Destiny ever since it's release but have held off jumping in due to various reasons. Recently however I was able to pick up the new 2 Player starter box for a great price. After playing the 20 card starter decks my brother and I are very interested in playing casually. My question is... is it worth it to by another 2 Player box or would it be best to buy the original starter packs (Kylo & Rey) or just move straight to buying booster packs to start building variety in the decks? Any advice would be appreciated.

Great to hear you’re enjoying it! Where to go next depends on how much money wou want to spend, really.

If you only want to spend a little more money, a second 2-player game will give you both competitively viable 30-card, 30-character point decks.

If you’re looking to get a better taste of the broad scope of the game, the packs are the way to go. Plan on buying at least 60 packs (and try to split it up over the three sets of cards to avoid too many duplicates). Then you’ll have a good amount of deckbuilding choices. Note that some game stores also do deals where they sell the packs cheaper by the box (a box has 36 packs). It seems that the best cards are in Awakenings, but Spirit of Rebellion is the most balanced (you have the best odds of getting good cards in there). I’d advise getting more cards from the first two sets, but Empire at War has some really good cards too.

Finally, once you get into the game, the older starter sets have some good cards in there. Old Rey, old Kylo, Force Throw, and Mind Probe are all great cards.

May the Force be with you!

Thanks!! This is exactly what I was looking for. Appreciate the advice.

It is definitely worth having 2 of the two player starter sets. Having elite versions of the characters are worth it. You and your brother could spend 10 dollars a week and get one booster of each set (3) and have a blast. Then after a few months buy a few singles.

Thanks for the recommendation. I like the idea of $10 a week getting us a booster from each set!

Honestly, unless you just enjoy the thrill of opening boosters, buy singles. You'll get what you want and spend less doing so.
