Sunderer-Class Suncrusher. What would happen if the First Order modernized the design?

By Refugeanoth, in X-Wing

Something like this I reckon! I've always been a fan of the Suncrusher from the Jedi Academy trilogy, but was not a fan of the "flying ice cream cone" design aesthetic. I thought it would be cool if the First Order at some point discovered the original schematics for the Suncrusher and built one using kyber crystals in the construction and as a power source for the resonance torpedo system. I'm planning on using this and the Tie Silencers to introduce the First Order to my HOTAC group on an expedition into the unknown regions. Need to fix a couple non-manifold edges, but I'm gonna send this off to the 3d printer today and I thought I'd share!

This ship is just too much BS.

No argument there! It'll make for a good boss ship for my squadron to fight for sure :)

You should add a couple of Chiss Clawcraft if it's supposed to be the Unknown Regions!

Great idea! Love that ship design.

It would be black and white with a better name. Boom, done. New ship.

This thing is definitely getting a black and white paint job when I get it!

It's so hideous I like it. I'm surprised it hasn't made it into the Sequels yet. Awesome ugly seems to be the First Order aesthetic for a lot of their vehicles. Those gorilla walkers are both ugly and cool at the same time, as is the big cannon massive pizza slice and the even more hugely massive Snoke boomerang. So ugly I like them.

Do people not understand that the whole point of the Suncrusher was that it was literally indestructible?

They had to fly it into a black hole just to get rid of it.

Don't forget a bit of red

The supremacy in particular is growing on me. The lines and angles of it were definitely an inspiration for this. Thanks!

Red cockpit glass would look sick

Yeah, I thought it was stupid. Then ok. Now I like it.

Oh yeah, that'll do.

Invincible to being outright damaged, yes, but not affected by other things like ionization or tractor beams. I think it'd be pretty awesome fighting this thing with a couple squadrons of y-wings blasting it with ion torpedoes and ion cannons while a large ship tractor beamed it into a blackhole. Especially for my squad who aren't necessarily well-versed in the eu. They would have to figure out how to deal with this thing once it shows up all on their own.

Except the game doesn't have black holes...

You have a ship that can't be defeated by any means that exist within the game.

Pick a board edge. Move the Sunderer off that board edge using a tractor beam while it is ionized and it's assumed that is where the black hole is.

HOTAC my dude! If it doesn't exist, then I build it!

You got it. Great idea!

Totally beat me to it. Nothing more like a black hole than flying off a table edge. . .

So if I don't have either of those upgrades, it's a no-win scenario for me?

Make it bigger. Invert the colors.

The Suncrusher was one more example of stupid EU escalationism. Then JJ Abrams gave us Starkiller Base. I have a feeling he would approve of this thread.

At 1/270 scale, if 1 board edge is the point of no return in the Black Hole's gravity well, how far would that board edge need to be from the actual black hole in order for the rest of the play area to be safe for ships operating at sublight speeds? Maybe you could incorporate an element where the ships aren't totally safe. At the start of each round, every ship gets pulled at 1-speed in the direction of the dangerous board edge.

even in a universe of 2-D dogfights and space wizards, this ship defied any suspension of disbelief. easily the stupidest thing in all of star wars next to Force Awakens

Hey, it avoided tractor beams too!

Yes, I recently reread the trilogy to see how it held up (spoilers: It does not), and 3P0's golden buttplug dodged tractors TWICE: Once while it killed a Star Destroyer all by itself (by flying right through it), and once while Stupid Jedi Kid was on his attack run to kill a planet.

So, yes, completely invincible.

Not like another named superweapon in this thread that was killed by a ragtag group of obsolete ships, a former garbage trooper, and a past-his-prime smuggler...
