CC vassal All out assault

By Irishmadcat, in Star Wars: Armada

Hi all,

To try and do the All Out assault we have broken it down to 7 events each fleet controlled by one player so

Round 1: Brobafett v Dorrin314
Round 2: IrishMadcat v
Visovics
Round 3: Brobafett v PodRacer
Round 4: GhostofNobodyInParticular v Dorrin314
Round 5: Irishmadcat v Visovics
Round 6:
GhostofNobodyInParticular v PodRacer
Round 7: GhostofNobodyInParticular V PodRacer

I will post the times here as we get them. First part probably next week.

Background.

These guys have been running a Conflict Campaign on vassal for the last few months and have reached the thrilling conclusion.

Due to time issues they cant get all six admirals online at the same time.

If you want to watch the glory of 3000 pts on the table at once, then follow this thread to see the schedule.

@Green Knight Is the vassal table big enough for the campaign?

That's a really good idea for Vassal CC.

There is a custom map size available that fits the CC: 9x3 (CC). Available in all black and blue-green rift versions.

Awesome! You guys should try to get game logs and post them

Since we will be playing round by round a saved and shared log will be a requirement!

Good for us, and good for posterity no doubt.

To anyone following this thread Round 1 has just kicked off.

We forgot to post the times of the first round. :(

Dorrin and Broba wrapped up deployment and round 1 about an hour ago.

@Irishmadcat and @Visovics are next. Please post your schedule here in advance.

Round 2 will be fought on saturday the 11th, time is still to be arranged on when exactly the imperials are to crush the foolish rebellion

Round 2 is gonna be awesome! Can't wait to see how it goes.

Screenshots or it didn't happen.... :P

The Imperial forces mount a desperate All Out Assault on the Rebel forces that have been swaying control of the Corellian Sector in their favor. Currently the massed fleets of both sides have dropped out of hyperspace and proceeded along their approach vectors toward the engagement. Rieekan and Dodonna in their MC80 Assaults and Ackbar in his AF MK II and Salvation are in hyperspace traveling to reinforce the besieged Rebel forces. Similarly, Vader is en route in his Avenger ISD-1. Two Victory-1's are on their way to reinforce Admiral Motti, and Demolisher and a Gozanti commanded by Agent Kallus are on their way to reinforce Admiral Ozzel.

Beautiful!

That is an amazing amount of ships!

I shudder to imagine what a AOA with 6 MSUs would look like. We only had 1 MSU, and as it had a medium ship, it wasn't a true MSU.

So did you guys collaborate for setup, or was it the first round player who did the setup?

First round. The reason we split it up was because we weren't all able to be present at the same time. So we split it by round, and as the first player had to play with the results of deployment, we grouped the two.

Of course, within our teams things were still pretty collaborative. I made sure the ships that went into hyperspace were the ones they wanted and such. Even though one person is commanding the combined fleets for the turn, it's still a team game.

It's not pretty. :)

That said, MSUs really suffer in the AOA in my experience, for a couple of reasons.

First, activation advantage matters much less as total number of ships on the board increases. I suspect, though it would be difficult to prove, that the percent of your fleet that gets to activate after your opponent has fully activated is a more meaningful measure of activation advantage than the number of activations by which you exceed him. Similar to my deployment curve concept, actually.

Second, the AOA deployment rules heavily penalize non-large ships. You have to set aside either one large ship or two small/mediums at deployment, decreasing deployment by double the amount of a large-ship-heavy opponent. Then, you can still only hyperspace in one of the two small ships at a time (vice the large ships jumping in all at once). So if your opponent can position to join battle by the end of turn 2 (not hard with aggressive play in such a constrained space), you're forced to join the fight down a ship. Even if you just left a flotilla off the board, that's still a rough spot to be in. Add to that the fact that hyperspacing in 3 ISDs or MC80s on turn 2 can set up some SERIOUS forking action, putting the MSU at an even more substantial disadvantage after 2-3 of those small ships are popped right off the bat at the opening of round 2.

Edit: I haven't really been watching this campaign, and just realized the game is at the top of Round 2 right now , so... sorry if I just gave one side or the other a nasty idea. Surely, given the players involved, this is all old news to everyone involved anyway... >.>

@Ardaedhel thanks for the disclaimer, you bring up some really good points and maybe the Imps needed some pointers and that helped them ;)

In the bigger picture, its cool to see how much different the AOA is than a typical game, even a typical big point game. There's a lot to think about.

Last night I had a nightmare that @Irishmadcat forgot to hyperspace in our ships at the start of the next turn. I just remember yelling at computer screen over and over (in my dream) at Irish, playing on vassal half a world away, not to forget the hyperspace and watching him forget it again and again in some sick continuity loop that I was stuck in all night long. It was kind of like the endlessly falling down a well dream, only it was a hyperspace tunnel and I had Rieekan, Ackbar, and Dodonna trapped there with me as I helplessly watched the rest of our ships get blown to pieces by Vader BTVenger.

Maybe I can blame @Ardaedhel for bringing the hyperspace theory into my subconscious before I hit the sack?? Or maybe @Dorrin314 gets the blame for bringing that dread ship into our campaign?

Either way, I woke up super exhausted today.

Hey guys, after some scheduling hiccups the AOA resumes today at 10am-12pm Pacific (about 2 hrs from now). Any part of turn 2 not finished in that time will finish at a later day.

Turn 2 is going to be bloody, so if you want to see lots of plastic flying on and off the table tune in at 10.
