Can a Doom Shuttle still be relevant?

By BCooper85, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Spitballing with a friend of mine we've been mulling over a list including fully loaded Quickdraw and Backdraft with a Doom Shuttle (Vader crew and Baffle).

What's everyone's thoughts on this? The SF's are pretty self sufficient and are not tied down at all, the shuttle can hang back a fair bit and come in once the SF's have plinked off a target's shields. I know for sure that it looks cool :D

Doom Shuttle is always fun! Haha

It’s always been relevant imo. I think he’s better on a Decimator as the turret means nothing is safe. If aces ever make a resurgence stick a gunner on too, and it takes two turns to kill an ace whether or not your attack actually causes damage.

I get that he could be better on a Deci but putting him on a Lambda is so cheap!

I was thinking of running a similar list but with Kylo instead of Vader. Mainly to take enemy aces down to pilot skill 0.

The only problem being getting those consistent crits. Apart from Backdraft and the rear arc there are no nailed on crit producers.

Maybe Vader would be better. The SFs do hit like a train and the shuttle could be perfect for following in and force gripping what's left in to bits ?⚡️?

That's the plan! If need be the shuttle can stop multiple times as well by baffling away the stress.

I like it, think I'll try it out tomorrow night!

My usual load out for the SFs is Expertise and sensor cluster on QD and I'm thinking Cruise missiles on Backdraft (plus FCS, title and LWF on both) just so the other guy will have trouble deciding who is the biggest threat.

Best looking big ship, first with 0 on the dial, vader crew and the old damage deck created panic on Howl/Soontir... it was a beautiful addition to the game.

EBaffles is a well designed fairly priced upgrade that helps keep the ship relevant but n ew damage deck + increase of Shields trump the upgrade.

Imho today OMG has better crew as a Palp/Kylo carrier that will still hit hard (R1 + Palpie crit can be devastating, Kylo + FCS balances damage and support)

I'd try something like this (love the idea of PS0 an ace so that Juke Ryad can dominate)

Countess Ryad (34)
Juke (2)
TIE/x7 (-2)

"Quickdraw" (29)
Expertise (4)
Fire-Control System (2)
Homing Missiles (5)
Guidance Chips (0)
Special Ops Training (0)

Omicron Group Pilot (21)
Fire-Control System (2)
Kylo Ren (3)

Total: 100

If you're holding him back, use a fleet officer or Hux to add some focus tokens to your QD/BD. For three points (5 if hux) giving them both some focus tokens couldn't hurt, and if you're using Hux you get the guaranteed hit that you could leave on your OGP in the back. should save you some points or let you re-allocate some to other options for your ties. With your extra crew spot of course.

Multi-stop-baffle is good, but it actually fights against Vader's strategy a little bit.

You want every hit-point for Vader. Just leave him by himself. Maybe put collision detector on him if you have it; just don't spend any other points.

I think at 1 point and since later games always adjust, it is certainly a valuable option. I've seen 1 point spent worse, but I agree it needs to be spent absolutely sparingly otherwise you'll lose the value of Vader.

My favorite experiences with DoomShuttle have been against players who can't remember the game before PalpAces. Nothing like a throwback to throw someone off their meta tunnel vision.

Also the one time I suicided my TIE Bomber mini DoomShuttle to deliver the finishing blow to a VCX.

Honestly, I really don't think so. You'd be lucky to get one shot off before everything's behind you and you never get arc again, in the current meta.

Maybe, in a meta less full of turrets and HP tanks.

Doom Shuttle is still good. I got 10th place at a 45-player Store Championship with Doom Shuttle and 4 TIE strikers.

I'll be honest, I'm a little scared of Electronic Baffle. One time, I used it with Fleet Officer, and that one damaged allowed my opponent to destroy my shuttle before it got to shoot. I haven't gotten over that.
