Foam storage?

I love feldherr foam and have it for the first few waves. I recently discovered game plus foam and bags at miniature market which is way cheaper. It's pluck foam and not quite as nice but the cost is a lot less.

The Games Plus bags are what I use. I use them in combination with @SirWillibald s awesome hangers. I really love how they protect these babies.

Another solution are the aluminum tool cases at Harbor Freight Tool if you have one of those near by?
They measure 18 X 13 X6.
They come with adjustable dividers and a deep pluck foam setup.
The website has them for $25-30 but with a commonly available coupon you can get them for about $20 in store.
I added an additional battle foam tray for squadrons and with that each one can carry 25 or more squadrons and multiple capital ships.
Cost me a little under $40 for each setup(one for my Rebels and one for my Imperials).

Best carrying case I've had.

Here is a quick link:

Generic pluck foam is cheap, protects well, and you can customize to your collection. This 15x10x3in foam holds:

2 pickles, 1 Liberty, 2 AFs, 2 Nebulons, 2 shrimp, 4 flotillas, 2 Peltas, 2 hammerheads, 3 CR90s, their ship cards, and enough bases for everyone.

I've been using Feldherr foam for a few years now, starting with X-wing and then Armada almost as soon as I started playing. I have a Maxi bag for Armada, and a couple of smaller ones for X-wing. I have zero complaints about them. I'm just waiting to put another order in now for quite a lot of trays to cover the last waves of both games, and probably that backpack bag for the half trays, plus a bunch more cardboard archive boxes, since I've managed to eat through the ten I bought originally...

I've got Feldherr for my Armada and some X-wing. I picked up most of it from Amazon, though I have ordered directly from Feldherr. The shipping is not that bad, once you look at the price in comparison to Amazon, they're almost equal.

The only foam trays that I feel aren't worth it are the squadron trays. I use a Plano box for them, one box stores far more than one tray ever would.

Can we see some pictures of your rebel sheets of foam? I am ready to move to full sheets and I am wavering between getting custom cut foam through battlefoam and buying GamePlus foam to customize.

Yup, I'll post them tonight. I spent A LOT of time gridding out the way they fit.

How did you grid them out? Did you use graph paper or lay them down and use toothpicks to outline the shape?

I've been considering switching to the Game Plus foam for some time now. I already use them for 40K, and am very happy with it. I too would be interested in any info you can give not only about how you've layed it all out, but also what thickness of their foam you are using.

The easiest and best way is to trace your ship on a piece of paper, I prefer thicker card stock and then you can lay out all your ships on the foam for the best fit.

I've bought Game Plus / Portable Warfare trays in each thickness and then picked one to start with - I just laid each ship on top to see where I'd need to pull the foam out. Very simple. I have rebel specific trays and imperial specific trays, as well as a 1" tray for the templates, speed dials, and command dials, and I think a 3" for ship bases and stands (I split out stands so that I don't have to carry as many stands as I have ships).

I love battle foams product, I consider it the best of the foam product out there. Having said that there are two big issues with it that you have to know going in.

First: It's expensive, you're looking at 150 to 200 between the bag and foam and you'll see that cost expand as new stuff comes out.

Second: Their customer service is probably the worst I've ever experienced. During their Thanksgiving sale i spent over 200 dollars during the sale and got 8 or 9 pieces of foam. They accidentally duplicated one of of pieces and left out another so I contacted them and asked how i could get it replaced. After 2 months of back and forth they denied my return and claimed it was my fault because i ordered so much at once during their busiest time of year. Pretty clear why i won't order from them again.

I picked up some Feldherr as my army has expanded the past couple months, picking up full sets for both rebel and imperial as well as several spare pieces for fighters. The foam isn't bad, a little too soft/ flexible for my preference but it works. My biggest issue with them is the way the cases hold the models. you fill them horizontally but you carry the case vertically so if the case isn't packed to the brim it will tip and that's a problem.

Ok so here are my rebel ships:

ZxzyNRR.jpg

The left three are 2.5".

The middle three are 1.5"

The right two are 1".

Yes I have 5 Neb-Bs. (Don't judge) :) [holy crap I have 7 CR-90s!?)

I just have one squad tray for tourneys that holds 12.

The easiest way to figure out your ship "plucks" is to press them lightly into the foam.

Very Nice! Thank you!

I contacted Feldherr earlier this week regarding the distribution of their product in North America.

I got a reply today (very speedy), where informed me that it's quite challenging to distribute to NA, but that they'd settled on Amazon.

The GOOD NEWS is that they are working hard to get MORE Feldherr items into the Amazon catalog.

So hopefully Amazon will be the place where you can get ALL the Armada bits (and X-wing too) in NA.

Fingers crossed!

A little necro-posting, but the topic is appropriate.

I just received a Feldherr bag for Waves 3, 4 and 5. Feldherr has changed things up, when you purchase one of these Maxi bags they ship it in a grey draw-string type backpack. Other than that, it's the same foam that we've come to love and use. The tray for the Interdictor came with two inserts so you could put a pair of Gladiators. The Flotilla/Corvette tray can fit Hammerheads, just need to make a minor adjustment to the foam (cutting a corner back) and the Hammerheads will fit snuggly. The Light Cruiser tray will fit four if you stack them and use the card slot for bases.

And don't forget, that the Flotilla foam work for the Flotilla and for a few of the other small ships (Raider, CR90).

They added as well full size foam .
But i prefer the normal half size one. Especially the squadron foam for 12 squadrons and the normal one with 10 boxes for dice, tokens, damage deck, ....
