New Squad List Ideas Causal Play

By Major Crash, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hello all! It's your favorite filithy casual here, Major Crash. I've been particularly excited about some of the new ships coming out, and snagged myself an TiE Agressor, because I have been wanting to have an Imperial Turret ship since time immemorial (disappointed it isn't a Skipray or an full-shroud Y-Wing, but there you go). So the following list combines some ideas about what to do with the new ship, and the lovely wall of TiEs I can now deploy:

Imperial Bomber Squadron: 100 pts

“Double Edge” (26)

TIE Aggressor (19), Unguided Rockets (2), Ion Cannon Turret (5)

Captain Jonus (26)

TIE Bomber (22), Extra Munitions (2), Flechette Torpedoes (2)

Academy Pilot (12)

"Deathfire" (23)

TIE Bomber (17), Extra Munitions (2), Cluster Mines (4)

Obsidian Squadron Pilot (13)

Beginning to enjoy the lower cost aces as I develop my gaming style... I used to fly some of the higher cost ones but then I met Deathfire and it was love at first bombing run.

I'm also working on making solid but thematic lists for Rebels... but the darn cannon keeps changing so much it is difficult to keep track of what ships were available to the Rebels at wha times (though Rebels approach to this, by just having different cells use whatever is at hand is not a bad way to introducing ships earlier in cannon than in the old EU). Thus, I worked up the following lists:

Late War\Resistance Rebels: 99 points

Ibtisam (33)

B-Wing (28), Extra Munitions (2), Flechette Torpedoes (2), Munitions Failsafe (1)

Miranda Doni (37)

K-Wing (29), Twin Laser Turret (6), Ion Bombs (2)

“Red Ace” (29)

Early War Rebels: 100 pts

Shara Bey (33)

ARC-170 (28), Plasma Torpedoes (3), Alliance Overhaul (0), Vectored Thrusters (2)

Biggs Darklighter (25)

Prototype Pilot (17)

Gold Squadron Pilot (25)

Y-Wing (18), Targeting Astromech (2), Ion Cannon Turret (5)

Lemme know what you guys think!

I like your Aggressor set up. With all the low agi ships flying around, an ion turret is a good choice, and Double Edge has the rockets for the rare instance when you miss. You've got that EPT slot and might as well use it, so why not snag something like trick shot? You're likely going to be hiding in the asteroids in the middle of the map anyway, might as well maximize your benefits there. Or if you think you'll be flying close to Jonus, maybe try A score to settle. A soft reroll and soft focus for your turret is a pretty nice package. It'll make her the real focus of your squad while your fighters block and your bomber's drop bombs with minimal harassment.

I'm not sure about the flechette torps on Jonus though. Outside of aces and swarm lists you aren't going to get that stress token off. It seems like rebels in particular have about 12,000 ways to remove extra stress too, so that cuts back it's full effect use even more. I'd maybe consider changing the Obsidian Squadron pilot to another academy pilot and replace the flechettes with plasma torps. It's an extra die, plus an extra shield. I think that potential 2 more damage is going to get you more mileage than a potential stress token. He also has that unused EPT slot and mod slot. Trick shot and guidance chips are both 0 points and give him a little more bang for his buck.
