Nym, N'Dru and Thweek

By LordBlades, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Here's an idea I've been playing with lately, trying to get something decent out of Guns for Hire:

Nym N'Dru Thweek (99/100)
===========================
Starviper: Thweek (28 + 4)
+ StarViper Mk.II (-3)
+ Autothrusters (2)
+ Virago (1)
+ Fire Control System (2)
+ Glitterstim (2)

Scurrg H-6 Bomber: Captain Nym (30 + 13)
+ Veteran Instincts (1)
+ Autoblaster Turret (2)
+ Harpoon Missiles (4)
+ Bomblet Generator (3)
+ Havoc (0)
+ Guidance Chips (0)
+ Advanced Sensors (3)
+ "Genius" (0)

Z-95: N'dru Suhlak (17 + 7)
+ Veteran Instincts (1)
+ Harpoon Missiles (4)
+ Glitterstim (2)
+ Guidance Chips (0)

I feel it's a decent threat to 'cuddle around Biggs' lists due to dual Harpoons, can threaten most ps 8 and below ships (Miranda, Dash, Rey etc.) with the same 2 Harpoons. It struggles against any 98 points or lower Dengar/Nym though.

My plan for Thweek is to either use him to grab the highest PS of the enemy (if I can give him init) and then just arc dodge with him or grab a cool pilot abilitubif available (Nym, Biggs, Dengar, Rey etc.)

What do you think?

I think it might be better to take a bigger bid by using Cruise Missiles or dropping Glitterstim off Thweek, otherwise it looks fun!

That's a good point, although I'd rather drop the Glitterstim off N'Dru. Target Lock+Chips still provides a hefty mod for the missile shot, and I don't expect N'dru to matter much afterward. Thweek will probably get much more use of his Glitterstim.

The reason I suggest keeping it on N'Dru is exactly that he will die soon! The stress won't impact him very much (especially with these range 2-3 missiles) where the StarViper doesn't clear stress as effectively as we might like but is already rather durable defensively.

Hmm, I see your point. Redid the math and Glitterstim on N'dru is still a serious boost to a 5 dice missile.

I'll give both versions a go and see which I like more.
