I understand the cost and difficulty of buying and installing a modification of an attachment. But there seems to be no rules regarding purchasing the installation of the mod by and NPC. RAW only cover PC rolling to install.
My question: What system would you implement for PC's to purchase installation services of a mod from an NPC?
My thought: Purchase mod, then choose to pay a vendor for a number of proficiency dice. An idea of this would be: purchase mod (100), then pay 400 additional credits for 4 proficiency dice. Then make the installation roll. Not sure what the balance cost here is (50credits vs 100).
An additional idea could be to increase the rarity based upon the number of prof dice you are looking for. This is to represent that you couldn't find a talented mechanic with 6 proficiency dice on every street corner. Thus as you installed more mods, and thus would like to buy more proficiency dice it becomes harder to find competent NPCs to do so. Again, Not sure what the "balance" here would be but perhaps 3dice=5rarity, 4dice=6rarity, etc.
The primary motivation here would be for small parties that lack a PC with decent mechanics. By still maintaining a roll there is still the risk involved so I don't feel like it allows players to simply get around the "failure" by buying from and NPC.
Thoughts?
